Actually, my cordless phone gets pretty NON interactive whenever it needs new batteries. I remember phones that had probably already worked for 40 or 50 years when the phone company brought them to you, and they never needed anything replaced. Then again, when I got my first 25 foot cord (so I could take the phone into the living room!) I had to pay for “installation” PLUS a dollar a month to keep it. Wow, though — portable scissors! Don’t you hate when THOSE have short cords?.

ladyfingers, I know my post is long, but it STARTS with “Actually, my cordless phone….”The 25 foot cord was in the late 60’s, WAY before anyone ever heard of a cordless phone…. they were still science fiction, like Dick Tracy’s wrist radio.A long cord was exciting — the first chance we got to move the phone about, though still tethered. And sometimes it made the signal a little weaker.
The phone company used to charge for every additional extension, so I found phones at other locations and wired them across my basement ceiling. I was so good at wiring at that house that I also wired ON-TV etc the same way- and also wired a switching system (from electronic stores) to control which TVs could see which channels- adult ones in my room but not in the kitchen which kids could watch!
I forgot all about ON-TV…………… and wiring extra undoumented phones extensions…………smile………… BTW the first phone in our house was on the second floor……….. and the number was 792M……. tell the operator the number you want…….. My friend’s number was 65…….
