We’ve all been behind them! Looking under the seats and in glove box for change, then missing the receptacle when they throw it in. Aaaaargh! Makes you want to go get your CHP. What’s the deal on getting a discount for hitting a highway worker in IL? Are they having a sale? A twofer, maybe? Or, pardon the pun, is this a layaway program?
While I do understand the humor of the comic today… one question I have as a very INFREQUENT driver through toll roads like I-80 & I-90 that Burl is driving through…. Wouldn’t a $20.00 be a reasonable and acceptable bill for them to take at the toll booth? I mean, they do have the EZ Pass lanes for all the regular folks who commute and go through the toll roads regularly. But for the more touristy types, giving a $20 does not seem all that outrageous. I typically try to have a lot of change and small bills when I anticipate going through a toll area, but gee, $20 is pretty small, especially when many toll areas are more than $1.70…. often in the $5-6 dollar range. If Burl had given the man a $50 or a $100 I would have completely understood…. but a $20 seems rather “ok”.
Sorry I am late today….. but….. we had a lot of wind damage….this morning……… here in Illinois…. 200 miles north of Crustwood. The implication here is that the reason the toll worker can not change a twenty is…… he has pocketed the toll money…… Well the Illinois Toll Authority has some history here…… with this topic…. so it is a local joke of sorts……….. NOT funny….. if you live here………. But if you live elsewhere…. It is ok…. to LOL……
I agree with pipe. I used to live in IL and have to drive through 2 tolls both ways every week to visit my Mom (very pricy and I often had to put in extra money because I did not have change. I hope AZ keeps our freeways; it is worth the high fees just to avoid that trouble. As it is, I only use the freeway on a weekend (when they also schedule closures for work) and seldom use the same route often.

Pipe Tobacco: He’s asking for change of a 20, not just paying the toll with it..

Is Joy actually trying to be considerate?

Pipe Tobacco: You are correct. Even if choirboy is right and he is just asking for change, the toll booth person will do it.
