I am an art student, and I’ve been reading every daily comic strip in The Province since I was young. Frankly, this strip stands out because of the poorly drawn anatomy and composition. For example, in this comic, it is obvious the grandmother is bent in because you’re avoiding drawing the hands, and the television is abnormally close to the couch. The grandmother looks like she’s being held up at an awkward angle, and the kids would have to climb over the sides of the couch or squeeze past the TV to get out of there. Not to mention that it would be horrible for their eyes.The writing is decent, but the illustrator could use more than a few live human figure courses, in addition to considering composition and believable placement of objects. I know that drawing a strip every day is tough, but it’s hard to believe that a cartoonist, of all people, can’t take art courses as well. Think about the poses, put yourself in the pose you want to draw, and look in a mirror. Another thing: people don’t kick their feet up parallel to the ground, straighten their arms, spread their fingers, and lean back while their walking.

Besides, it sais recommended, not required. And if Grandma is watching it from behind them, she’s supervising (technically).
