Anubis and Thor are guiding mankind. They’re proactive and preemptive and mankind still has the choice to act on their influence. Karma rewards or punishes mankind after they’ve already made their choices, when it’s too late to change anything.
This is, unfortunately, a perfect metaphor for what passes for debate in our society. Says Karma, “what you’re doing is morally wrong.” Replies Anubis, “but somebody else does it!” Repeats Karma, “It’s still wrong, and here’s why.” Rebuts Thor, “but more than one somebody else does it!” Ships passing in the night…
Don’t make the puppy mad, Karma. How does she even know what they’re going to talk about? All they said is that they’re going to talk about gods, not preach Egyptian cat worship.Anubis’ ears can curl?
And when the gods are not moral, why should anyone else try to be moral?C.S.Lewis pointed out the problem of trying to be free of the influences of those who lived before us, and also trying to exert greater control on our descendants: it would end in a generation perfectly free of all control, but without the moral compass to use that freedom wisely.
Quite the opposite. It’s the difference between free will choices WITH KNOWN CONSEQUENCES vs brainwashed rote behavior.
Just look at our legal system, for example: You have free choice whether to abide by or to break the law and (ideally), there are appropriate consequences for whichever choice you make – AFTER you act on your choice.
Or if you cheat on your wife, eventually it will catch up to you and cost you dearly (Just ask Arnold – probably around $200M!) – again AFTER the action.
Similarly, there is good Karma and bad Karma after you choose your action.
In both systems, you know beforehand what those consequences will be (even though you may think you can get away with it).
The “godcasts”, as described by the “in crowd”, are a collection of “Thou Shalt Not” dictates, not choices. They don’t seem to be very effective.

Yeah? Why are you getting involved in this god-stuff, Karma? Your mission is retribution or reward after the fact. Coyoty is right!

Of course, you can avoid advertising and cable news, harder for the former than the latter, but it can be done. How can you avoid a Godcast?

I can’t quite place your references, although it seems I read something along those lines many, many years ago.
