@Adrian Raeside – I rarely go to theaters and you listed the many reasons why. When I do go, I enjoy the Muvico and Muvico-like places though I have NEVER paid to park.
You all should come to Mexico. There are two levels of movies here, VIP and normal. Normal is clean and only costs 4.50 to get in. VIP is $6 and is a lazyboy chair, theatre only holds 80 people, has personal service with a waiter and serves beer, wine, sushi and gorment sandwiches. Ah, life here is good.
Let me think back …. the last movie theater I was in was showing The Godfather (one). So how long ago was that? Seven dollars for popcorn?? Get serious! No wonder there is so much “family debt” when people are willing to throw their money away!
My daughter and I go to the movies almost every week. I buy discounted tickets directly from the theater – most chain theaters and some independents have a discount or loyalty program, and this saves me a few bucks on each ticket. Plus, for those films for which even a discounted ticket seems a waste, we have a second-run theater close to us that offers tickets for a mere $1.50 – $2.00. We love the movies – pirates or not. I can think of worse ways to spend my money such as concert tickets priced into triple digits for a seat in the back practically behind a pillar.
They charge to park there? Wow… I’d NEVER go to the movies if it was THAT bad… As it is, I prefer DVDs since you can pause to get snacks or a potty break, but when I want to go to the theater, I typically prefer the “cheap theater” that charges like $2 per person for a movie.

Sorry to bring this up, but head lice is also a real problem in movie theaters.

And, around here, it’s a 25+ mile trip to the nearest theater.

Didn’t know there were still theatres out there that charged $2! Good to know!

By the way, I just should say, before ducking out quickly, that our local bakery has one rate for doughnuts, and a separate pie-rate.
