If I were Brad, I would be tempted to tell her that I knew why she lost her job at the bookstore, and that I was surprised that she was back in town. But I’m not Brad. :-) He really shouldn’t worry about her though- she’s come a long way down to be managing a fast-food franchise…
Look at the last panel. Look at the position of her left hand and then look at the waste basket. There’s a piece of paper over the opening. Methinks that she has just tossed that piece of paper and it’s heading into the can. This smacks of the same scenario with Bernice at the bookstore and the constant demands for lattes! She’s creating needless busy work just to exert her authority as his boss.
You are there to work, Brad. Not to have your girlfriend come and stroke your face. This isn’t the firehouse where you clean while waiting for a fire. Cleaning is now your total job. Ready to become a firefighter again?
Also, Brad’s comment at the end there reminded me of how little kids are fiercely defensive of friendship between genders, “She’s just a friend, honest! I swear, we’re not dating!”
Always lots of grist for speculation in a well-written strip. The only thing I’m sure of is that Eiffel is a classic bully. What always astonishes me is that people like this are able to find others who will hire them into positions of responsibility, which bespeaks total lack of awareness in HR departments. What William Gibson said up there… Brad would be wise to move this toxic person far, far out of his sphere of influence.
OK, this one is easy. Ann starts choking on a Milk Dud and Brad rushes in to save her with the Heimlich Maneuver. Reported in the Newspaper, Brad is hired back as a Firefighter due to his record of saving lives. Ta Da.
In case you haven’t noticed, one of the recurring themes in this strip is that what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. For Brad to bail out at this point would spoil the opportunity to show that he has what it takes to deal with whatever Eiffel can dish out.
Brad worked as a firefighter for more than a year. Since when does that qualify as “not enough quarters”? Besides, he went into that job directly from another one. No state I know of looks only at the most recent job. They look at all employment/jobs during the qualifying period.
Okay, Brad, you just apologized to your supervisor for taking a moment to say hello to your girlfriend, whom you denied was your girlfriend. I’m acting on behalf of the Man Council, you’re hereby stripped of membership. Turn in your testicles. Oh come on, it’s not like you were using them for anything.
I lasted at a job 20 minutes one time. It was too long but I was young and stupid. This is the point at which you say – You can speak to me in complete sentences and respect or kiss my hairy butt.
Brad didn’t need to apologize nor explain. There is nothing wrong with briefly talking to people. Evil people can’t stand to see a good relationship without trying to sabotage it, stand by Ann is probably up to no good.
Can we just move on to another storyline already. Not that we should leave this one but it’s been what, 3 days already? What is Gunther doing? What about Tiffany? What is that cute little Puddles up to? Is Delta planning some improvements in the community? Are LuAnn’s parents talking about some incredibly boring sh#t? Where is the cat that LuAnn used to have and why do we no longer see it? Was is murder? Are Knute and Crystal getting jiggy wit it? These are all boring as hell storylines that we need examined!!
Today’s best comments: Anastacya, Chuck 373, Commodorejohn, and Numbnumb.
Question: Why is Toni impressed that Bwad would humble himself enough to work at Weenie World but had a fight with Dirk when Dirk humbled himself to take a trash collector job in their neighborhood (he obviously used to have a better job before he got a police record, since he had an expensive sportscar)?
Nice that Brad got Toni, but wouldn’t Brad act just like Dirk did if somebody started putting the moves on Toni? Dirk seems to have gotten a bad deal, especially after rescuing Brad’s mom and all. His temper got him in trouble to begin with, but in the end, Brad had the worse temper.
it just seems strange to have ann eiffel call Brad by his last name. as a boss, she certainly has no idea how to treat her employees with respect and consideration.
What things have come down to is that whatever Professor Chaos says invokes a response from the troll squad, whether the comment is douchey or not. My opinion is that we should allow Professor Chaos to say whatever he wants without calling him a troll or warning the room about what a troll he is. I have been guilty of trying to confront Professor Chaos and it quickly became tiresome to me and I’m sure to the rest of the room. I wasn’t confronting Professor Chaos because I thought he was a troll, but because I disagreed with something he said. And in the short and long run, that is a waste of time in here. I’ve said my piece, enjoy the rest of the evening.
I am amazed to say the least after I read your response. I was trying to let everyone in the room know that all of us, including you, should be able to say what they feel without being called a troll.
I must admit, when I reread my post to the room about us all getting along and being able to say what we wanted, I did see that it was slanted against only you and that was my mistake.I was trying to ease the troll hunting and just allow us to comment about whatever we wanted to.
NOTE: disagreement with the majority of comments does not make you a troll, but mean spirited comments and disagreement just to rankle the majority DOES make you a troll. Amen. It is not just about voicing one’s own opinions but deliberately saying them just to jab at sides of the opinions of the majority to call their attention back to self. Repeatedly posting several posts with negative comments throughout the day, responding to multiple commentators denying their allegations or comments reflect the behavior of a troll. It is not just about voicing an opinion….it is the behavior itself.

Couldn’t Brad find a better job? But again, it wouldn’t make for good humor.

Bad bosses are one thing, but denying that the one you love is only a friend? Bad move, Brad.

Take a page from “Wallys Words of Wisdom” in Dilberts: Just answer “I’m on it.” Unlike Wally, you’ll actually have to do the work.

She’s a good friend? She’s a lot more than that… but I guess Eiffel doesn’t need to know this.
