Pearls Before Swine by Stephan Pastis for July 22, 2011
Transcript:
Jiffy: I love my government for doing its very best. Spiffy: I praise it for its goodness. Rat: 'Equally entertaining'? That's way more entertaining. Pig: I love Spiffy best! Due to the content of this week's "Pearls Before Swine" comic strip, the U.S. Justice Department has obtained an injunction preventing the publication of the remainder of this week's strips. In its place, please enjoy this installment of the equally entertaining feature, "Jiffy and Spiffy, the Two Good Citizens."

Anyone reminded of the old folk song “What Did You Learn In School Today?”

Do Rat and Pig read their own comic in the paper?

I’m spending the rest of the day examining why I prefer Rat & Pig over Jiffy & Spiffy.

Meet Jiffy & Spiffy – they make “1984” look like a fun-fun time at the petting zoo! You can’t even see their lobotomy scars. Way to go Jiffy & Spiffy! You would fit right in with those “educational” films from 1954 – “How to Get Rid of those Pesky Red Commies!” and “Zinc – the Misunderstood Element”.

Btw, the third panel “I praise it for its goodness” had me laughing so hard because its corny, bad and Ned-Flanders all rolled into one line.

I think I’m going to hurl.

Remember, as you write, Commentators, Eric Holder is watching. I’m with Pig! Citizen Spiffy is right! I praise it for its goodness! Oh, yes!
[Meanwhile, sotto voce, in a secret underground lair of Rat’s Partisans: VIVA LA REVOLUTION!]

I think somewhere in the background there should be a roll of toilet paper for nose wiping. And maybe a large gavel hanging over their heads? I’m just sayin’.

praise it for its goodness and doing its best? have you seen the news lately? less than 12 days, the us will default on it debts unless congress raises the debt ceiling. GOP says so what? DEMS says GOP are crazy idiots. Rating agencies will downgrade US credit rating to b+ tied with zambia.

Disappointing that Stephan put the kibosh on this week’s storyline. Will we at least find out how he got out of jail?

Rayannina: I learned that governments never tell a lie.….And so we elect them again and again.

The Jiffy and Spiffy strip will soon debut in the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Until now Jiffy and Spiffy had merely been in charge of the Editorial department.

Where in the heck do Rat and Pig get a daily comics section that is both a: in color and b: at least 4 pages long? My local paper downsized to one page long ago and, though it’s still in color, it is so tiny you need a large magnifying glass to read it!

Seriously? Whatever happened to freedom of speech? I hope that first block is a joke.

If you don’t like Jiffy and Spiffy, you must not be an American.

So many political comments, so much igorance I begin to understand Einstein’s model of gravity’s distortion of space. No wonder hair, teeth, and churchgoing have replaced policies in American politics.

No one in the US can rebel without the military. People can be locked up for conspiracy. It would be hard to communicate off-grid. So how do you overthrow the system? You get elected.

So Rat’s anti-government rants were just a clever ploy to get Pearls Before Swine off the comics page and replaced with this fascinating new feature? Brilliant!

Rats! Pastis went whole hog on this strip, and now he’s in the pokey. I guess he found out that free speech is a croc, unless you toe the government lion. We’d better duck and wait to be goosed.
milady1 over 13 years ago
Is Pastis for real or just creatively copping out of finishing the storyline? It’s so hard to tell with sarcastic artists.

This comic is REALLY SUCKS! What a cop-out for an ending!

There won’t be a default, unless Timmy Geitner wants one. There’s enough money to pay for interest, social security and medicare. Look at the numbers. Or continue to listen to Rat the news anchor’s fear mongering if you choose. :)
