I’m spending the rest of the day examining why I prefer Rat & Pig over Jiffy & Spiffy.

Meet Jiffy & Spiffy – they make “1984” look like a fun-fun time at the petting zoo! You can’t even see their lobotomy scars. Way to go Jiffy & Spiffy! You would fit right in with those “educational” films from 1954 – “How to Get Rid of those Pesky Red Commies!” and “Zinc – the Misunderstood Element”.

Btw, the third panel “I praise it for its goodness” had me laughing so hard because its corny, bad and Ned-Flanders all rolled into one line.

I think I’m going to hurl.

The Jiffy and Spiffy strip will soon debut in the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Until now Jiffy and Spiffy had merely been in charge of the Editorial department.

Where in the heck do Rat and Pig get a daily comics section that is both a: in color and b: at least 4 pages long? My local paper downsized to one page long ago and, though it’s still in color, it is so tiny you need a large magnifying glass to read it!

Seriously? Whatever happened to freedom of speech? I hope that first block is a joke.

So many political comments, so much igorance I begin to understand Einstein’s model of gravity’s distortion of space. No wonder hair, teeth, and churchgoing have replaced policies in American politics.

No one in the US can rebel without the military. People can be locked up for conspiracy. It would be hard to communicate off-grid. So how do you overthrow the system? You get elected.

So Rat’s anti-government rants were just a clever ploy to get Pearls Before Swine off the comics page and replaced with this fascinating new feature? Brilliant!

Rats! Pastis went whole hog on this strip, and now he’s in the pokey. I guess he found out that free speech is a croc, unless you toe the government lion. We’d better duck and wait to be goosed.

Is Pastis for real or just creatively copping out of finishing the storyline? It’s so hard to tell with sarcastic artists.
