    Llewellenbruce –

I cannot speak for anyone but myself, but as ‘woman’ I can make up my mind quite nicely. But, as a ‘girl,’ not so much. Ha, ha, ha. Before my first date, my mom told me to let the boy order first. That way I could choose something less expensive than he ordered. The ‘boy’ and I are still good friends over 30 years later and he told me that his mom’s advice was to let me order first. Oy, oy, oy… the “What are you going to have?” “I’m not sure, what are you going to have?” ping pong game went on foooooreeeeever. The only thing cheaper than what he ordered was ribs, which I had never eaten before. Ah well, after I coached him on how to cover the salad dressing he spilled on the lapel of his white dinner jacket by moving his boutonier(sp), he coached me on how to eat ribs w/o getting sauce on my velour dress. Oh, we’ve had some good laughs about that one!

That’s what my stomach sounds like after I have eaten and then need to go take a dump. My doctor says I have a very fast gastro-intestinal reflex.

This is probably the first time Jon didn’t make an utter fool of himself.

As for letting the man order first, I’ve read you should order from the middle of the menu, not the cheapest nor the most expensive thing.

Why wouldn’t you order the meal you would choose if YOU were paying for the meal?

Jon must be starving, or else Liz really has a problem making decisions.

I always tell my hubby, “Pick me out something nice.”

That way I know it will always fit his budget, I’m saved the agony of making a decision, and I don’t have to look at the menu while I’m hungry. (Cardinal rule of grocery shopping, NEVER shop hungry. Everything looks good, and your eyes will be bigger than your stomach. I just apply the rule to restaurants as well. Call me crazy.)

My boyfriend and I have a rule. If we can’t afford to order whatever we want, we either find a cheaper restaurant or stay home.

BTDT - both ways. I wait for the lady to go first, usually - that way, I can order what will fit with what I have left to spend…..

And sometimes, that’s meant I’m still hungry when we leave…

OTOH, buffets are great - eat your fill, one price.

Hey everybody! All your comments re: what/how to order on a date are excellent…. Where were you when I was 16?!?! Ha, ha, ha. My husband and I follow essentailly the same guidelines as notinksanymore. At 16, was anything that logical? (-:

Taking my sister Ruth to dinner at a new restaurant is always an exercise in patience. She’s the worst at making up her mind. Not so bad in places she’s been before, she already knows what’s good and only has to choose between 2 or 3 items instead of a whole new menu. Still takes 20 minutes or more.

Oh, Liz, will you hurry it frickin’ up?! (I bet by the time she orders, Jon will already have his order, eaten it, paid his side of the bill and the restaurant will be at the closing hour… at the mythed end of the world in 2012.)

I don’t take long to decide what to eat at a restaurant I’ve been to before, but if I’ve never been there before, I need to read the whole menu before deciding. Great thing with the internet - now before trying a new restaurant, we can go to their website and read the menu before going! It is really helpful because sometimes after reading it, we decide we don’t want to go there after all. If prices are on the website, it is even better, so we have an idea about how much the meal will cost us.
