but it’s cheaper to buy the paper for the grocery coupons than it is to print them out.And you save more than the paper costs too.And the paper is much better when you have a new puppy. You really wouldn’t want to put your iPiddle on the floor for that.

Strangely Goldman Sacks played a role in the demise of print. They where principally involved in driving up the cost of paper trough a stockpile rental scheme. The increase of printing costs that resulted lead to decreased staff and decreased news gathering capabilities. Making newspapers less reliable and relevant.

I probably shouldn’t encourage you, but that was quite good. Do it again! :-D

If they would print the truth instead of the liberal lies, they could still be revelent.

I haven’t checked in a decade but in years ago in western Europe newspaper sales were in the dumps primarily because unions made subscriptions quite costly and many people often can’t be bothered to go out for news when TV and internet was readily available. And that was a long time ago.

It just won’t be the same to give a birthday present of a framed homepage from a news website for the day you were born.

IMHO it wasn’t the cost of the newspaper as much as the shift from reporting news to printing overly biased opinions that accounts for the demise of the newspaper.

Every day but Sunday at my house

couldn’t afford the paper’s delivery rate – it’s the ONLY reason we now read it online. It’s cheaper. But it’s not the same.

It doesn’t help that our so-called “local” small-town newspaper contains almost nothing but newswire dumps and opinion from corporate headquarters. And all of the writers are illiterate morons…

If I was a newspaper that carried Lio I would cancel it today.

i started my first subscription to the la times almost two years ago. thursday-sunday, for $26 a year. that’s free when you take into account the coupons… so, i’m happy with my newspaper.

Still good for wrapping glassware when you’re packing to move. Cheeper than bubble plastic, eaiser on the environment too.

Newspaper you should be ashamed of yourself! Ashamed I say. How many trees have you killed? Do you know how trees are killed when I read my news online? None.

Why does anyone read the paper anyway? Nothing but bad news, which in turn keeps people acting so lovingly towards each other. Americans read about all that is wrong with this society, yet do absolutely nothing to change it. Awesome!

Do you know about “to, too, and two” – or are you just playing dumb?

Lio can use that giant newspaper to line the bottom of his giant hamster’s cage. That’s about all newspapers are good for these days.

At my uncle’s house, the newspaper is the focal point of the day. If you get Internet news, you’re somehow acting more hoity-toity than the rest of us. I hate newspaper crosswords because I can never figure them out, and it’s frustrating there are only 12 comics instead of the 50 I’m used to. However, I could actually see getting a newspaper for my getaway cottage in the country because we have no Internet or TV service there.

My newspaper still pays for itself in coupons and comics I can’t find online, and I can carry it more easily than a desktop computer or a laptop. Once I get a tablet, though, I may reconsider the trade-offs.*If Liō comes back tonight, he can see the newspaper sleeping on a bench with a person covering it.

Setting aside our sadness about the decline of newspapers, look hard at the picture. Look at how the paper is folded. Now go grab a newspaper from your pile, and try to fold it so it looks like that.

With today’s widespread popularization of ignorance (Fox News, Jersey Shore, etc.), I’d say that newspapers are still vitally relevant. If you’re not sure what I mean, read Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451.

I actually like newspapers better than getting the news online it seems like a more reliable source and it’s organized in a way that makes it easier. But that’s just me.

heh, it’s been an interesting decade watching the slow, gradual inexorable decline of the big pulp-meisters with the rise of the web. hey wiley, you scared yet?
