Looks like each day is the frame of an animation. If you page through each day starting with Monday, it does make sense, sort of. Time will tell if it’s funny.
I would re-word their ‘About’ description so that it looks like this:
“Brevity is not the soul of wit, it’s also not your normal comics fare. In the hands of Guy Endore-Kaiser and Rodd Perry, it is neither sharply intelligent, nor amusingly idiosyncratic and seldom uproariously funny. Last but not least, it seems to have become anything but brief!”
Totally lost interest in this. I’m all for high-minded ideas but don’t test the readers’ patience. This strip is rarely funny as it is, now they go and waste a week.
I thought the other “time lapse” comic with the park bench that was done a few months ago was funny…but not until the last day. Until then I was just confused.
What you choose to perceive as a “rare talent to delay satisfaction that long” is obviously an irritation for many other readers, especially as the title of this strip is ‘Brevity’, a concept which seems to have escaped the cartoonists somewhat.
At this point, they are highly likely the only ones to be deriving any form of satisfaction from this farce which is not yet even remotely funny for many of their readers. I believe they are going to lose a lot of readers by doing this.
I think the “joke” will reveal itself on Friday when these kidsreach their destination, what they’re running towards. But in the past 3 days, they haven’t made much progress. Looks like the same tree in the background. Guy and Rodd need to take the word “uproariously” out of the cartoon description. This strip is never uproariously funny. The jury is still out on the “sharply intelligent” part. “Quirky” is my opinion of this strip. @runar: what is the brick joke?
As for the brick joke… it is a two part joke amongst many other jokes. What you do is tell a bunch of jokes, usually many of them about Helen Keller. One of the first jokes will be about a guy who is throwing a brick into the air and finally throws it so high it doesn’t come down. Not funny really, and you simply move on and keep telling other jokes for a few minutes until… you tell a joke about a guy on an airplane and the duck and the cigar. When the duck flys back in the window and you ask, “what do you think he had in his bill?” and they, “the cigar”, you pause for a moment and say, “No, the brick!”
Once my brother was telling the brick joke series and at the end when he asked the person what was in the duck’s bill the person guessed correctly and said “the brick”. My brother said, “No, Helen Keller”.
@Oxnate, your three piece comment runs across the ‘load the rest of the comments’ line making it the slowest comment ever. Are you disappoint?Meme checking for those who didn’t get the question there.
Lothar: Most horses pace unless trained to trot. Camels pace. There are other quadruped motions as well. Many antelopes spronk (all four feet together, bouncing like Pepe lePeu in pursuit). Kangaroos richochet (hind feet together, front feet only used in slow movement). Rabbits do a modified richochet with hind feet together and front feet touching mainly to keep balance. Most primates brachiate (front limbs only, swinging from branch to branch), and will use a three footed modified richochet if carrying something too big for the mouth.
Hi all - Sorry - a long day yesterday and again today, with no time (sniffle) for comics…. Probably too late to comment now, but as people are so kindly asking…..And this may not be what you’re looking for but I gotta say it…. again: Hahaha!Whatever it is, it has people talking.I’m always willing to go along for the ride. But I especially laugh at the notion that Guy and Rodd or ANY cartoonist OWES anybody a funny cartoon every day.You PAY them, and they LIVE on what they get for this cartoon? LOL!!! That’s even better. What part of your $12 a YEAR, ie 3 cents a day for all 235 comics on this site, is what they live on?How many members would it take to pay even one cartoonist?GoComics charges 3¢ a day for pro membership, merely to help offset what they would have earned by running the ad banners on your page that free subscriptions get. What they actually pay the cartoonists comes from syndication fees paid by newspapers. When newspapers die, we’ll HAVE to replace that income if we still want to read comic strips — but it will be more that $11.88 a year.Brevity last I checked was in about 125 papers — does somebody have proof they’re being dropped?Even so, Guy and rOdd haven’t quit their day jobs, nor have most cartoonists on this site.Except for a few very famous ones, the comics are mostly an outlet for creativity, a labor of love, and a gift to those who want to read them.I do, and I’ll gladly take what I get. If I don’t find a strip funny, I don’t read it. Not my job to tell the cartoonist I don’t appreciate his work. And I don’t read Brevity cos it’s uproariously funny, though sometimes it is.I love it cos it’s different, and yes, quirky, and irreverent, and shows a take on ordinary things that I might not have thought about — or maybe I did but thought I was alone. Some of my favorites from the past are not slam dunk “jokes”.For instance, I have an old one on my fridge with a sweet-faced cow, looking up adoringly at a cowboy. She’s trying to walk in his boots, and he’s indulgently saying “Aww, Bessie”.Remember that, Guy and rOdd? Still makes me chuckle. So, hey – leave if you like — who’s being punished? Go read the news – there’s some humor for ya.

My guess is that the dark haired boy isn’t playing tag but runs for something in front of the other boy.
Lodda over 13 years ago
But Dr. Low is right: The dark haired boy is running in “pace” which is odd. Usually only few animals do that.

it’s an animation. just print and clip out this series of panels , staple at the top and riffle through them
Lodda over 13 years ago
I think the main difference between this and the benches is that here is much less development between the panels makeing it less interesting.
