I’ve heard too many news stories lately about real child abuse. I prefered when we parents had a free hand, and the good sense not to overuse any punishment. Even some verbal punishment can become very distructive if a child never hears kind words and praise. This strip is OK because I’m pretty sure James’ mom will see to him the best she can, when dad leaves again (if this were real).
i always love this strip- one of my favorites. ok, so i’m a boy- but Ruthie reminds me of me when i was a kid… and it all feels like something out of a kinder, gentler John Waters movie….
Just saw current strip where Ruthie wants more ice cream so she’ll grow up and not be so susceptable to bites from Black Widow spiders (I often see baby ones in my pool-take out and squish!!)
