Doonesbury by Garry Trudeau for August 03, 2011
Transcript:
Jeff: So who's this woman you want to campaign for? Elizabeth Warren. From the consumer protection agency. There's talk of her running for the Senate. Joanie: You'd like her, she's direct, smart, approachable... Jeff: Wow. Is she hot? Joanie: For 62? You bet. Jeff: Why do you get my hopes up like that? For laughs?

Somebody predicted Liz Warren last strip. Grats! .This strip: poor Jeff! He misreads other people so badly that he’s edging closer to that dreaded precipice.

Notice in panel 4 that the beer can Jeff has offered his mother is located a foot away, closer to Trudeau’s easel, not within her easy reach, indicating that she’s not drinking it, but also not blatantly rejecting it either. Nice touch, Joanie.

Jeff, I invite you to Google the following names, and click Images for each: Sigourney Weaver, Susan Sarandon, Diane Sawyer, Jaclyn Smith, Loni Anderson, Meryl Streep, Helen Mirren, Raquel Welch. All of them are between 61 and 71, AND ALL OF THEM ARE OUT OF YOUR LEAGUE!

Because she wanted him, conceived and birthed him, suckled him, raised him, fed him, changed is diapers, clothed him, played with him, disciplined him, loves him, wants him to love her and to relate to her appropriately as mother-and-son, wants to see him do what is necessary to succeed economically in life (such as get a job, unfortunately via the kick-backside method), wants him to have a normal life, wants him to be happy, wants him to date, to become engaged, to marry and have children, her grandchildren — her grandchildren who will give HIM grandchildren and her great grandchildren, because above all she wants him to GET WELL. NOW! So that all this can take effect before she rises “not gentle into that good night” “raging against the dying of the light,” and yet to “have stars at elbow and foot” (the real Dylan Thomas). .If this is something you don’t understand, G. Martin, then . . . well . . . Martin, the question does arise:.Why did/does your mother bother to give you the time of day?.Huh?.Why?

Susan, have you seen the website on 69-year-old Raquel? I don’t think you would have written your post here if you had first read it:.http://www.examiner.com/celebrity-fitness-and-health-in-national/raquel-welch-still-sizzling-at-69-my-beauty-and-fitness-secrets

I called this (in my head – who I’d work for if I came out of retirement) – Elizabeth Warren -) and what league is Meryl Streep in? The League of the overrated? See Gena Rowlands, see Jo Van Fleet….and would Eleanor Roosevelt be disqualified from service to humanity because she was not a 10?

Let’s entertain the awful question by probing the deep murky roots of Jeff’s mental processing: Does he expect Mom to work for a 25 y.o. perfect complexioned, “busty lusty” and make her available to him — “get my hopes up” — while Joanie puts her in the highest office in the land? Great Gatsby in a shiny autumn-leaf-yellow Rolls! Is our boy slipping into, into, dare I say it? Psychosis? Schizophrenia? Oblivion?

Now d’ja hear ‘bout Louie Miller? He disappeared, honeyAfter drawin’ out all his hard-earned cashAnd now MacHeath spends like a sailorCould it be our boy’s done somethin’ rash?
Now Jenny Diver, ho, ho, look out, Sukey Tawdry Ooh, Miss Lotte Lenya not to mention old Lucy BrownOh, the line forms on the right, babeNow that Macky’s back in town
Could this be Jeff’s future? If Joanie kicks him out of the house? Oh it wouldn’t last, it wouldn’t last, for“They were not long, those days of wine and roses”.

Shouldn’t you write in brogue, Dylan. we still wouldn’t get it, but we might just think it’s the accent.

Bye the bye, Dylan. RW was among the first to admit to plastic surgery and credit it for her getting roles. In the 19-sixties!

I believe every male writer missed the point of hotness being related as much to personality and INTELLIGENCE as plastic surgery. Nice to see the strides in women’s rights in the last few years have been completely diluted by TV ad images and rich guys marrying Anna Nicholle Smiths.

Though I have seen my head [grown slightly bald] brought in upon a platter, I am no prophet—and here’s no great matter; I have seen the moment of my greatness flicker, And I have seen the eternal Footman hold my coat, and snicker, And in short, I was afraid. (my lovesong)

Mythical?

Well, Elizabeth Warren is smart as a whip. She has integrity, and she doesn’t mind the spotlight. Massachusetts would be very lucky to correct the Scott Brown mistake so quickly.Could she stand working in a Senate populated by dumbasses like Jeff Sessions & John Cornyn, and sleazebags like Mitch McConnell?

So, Susan, you don’t believe Raqel Welsh when she says, “I don’t care about what kind of plastic-surgery exploits you get into, it’s not going to do the trick,” she says. “You absolutely have to have an exercise program. I do something physical every day.” ?? As quoted in the article on her on the website I recited?

When you are old and gray and full of sleep, And nodding by the fire, take down this book, And slowly read, and dream of the soft look Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;
How many loved your moments of glad grace, And loved your beauty with love false or true, But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you, And loved the sorrows of your changing face;
And bending down beside the glowing bars, Murmur, a little sadly, how Love fled And paced upon the mountains overhead And hid his face among a crowd of stars.
to me, an excellent description of the difference between love and lust. credit to William Butler Yeats.

Michael Jackson wrote the book on plastic surgery fouls. As long as Newmar stays on this side of Jackson, she’s cool.
