"Geez, will you look at this? According to these surveys by the national constitution center, only 41% of American teens can identify the three branches of government..." "More than half of all American adults do not know the senate has 100 members. ...And almost a quarter of this country cannot name a single right guaranteed by the first amendment." "Heeey, take it easy, Einstein... Why does it matter?" "Why?... I'll tell you why... Because we live in a democracy, and these same people who know nothing about our government, which means that they decide whether or not we go to war, whether cities are destroyed, whether people lose their lives." "Dude, you made miss wrestling."

@mishield You are confusing a representative democracy (which we are not) with a republic (which we are).

This comic is from the time of Dubya’s “successful” campaign to fool enough voters twice, but it is not dated at all, as proven last year by Putin and his #PresidentTweety puppet. The division-and-conquest of public education began a long time ago, but really ramped up under then Secretary of Education (and super-hypocrite) Bill Bennett (of fake virtue infamy), who is now a big Trump supporter. There still exists a small division of good public schools to give feeble hope to the parents who care that much, but most of the students are now in obedience schools you wouldn’t send your dog to.
Putin didn’t create the mindless mushrooms. He just harvested them.
The funny part is the motive that closes the loop. I used to think it was mostly religious nuts who wanted to make sure their kids were as deluded as themselves, but now I think they’re just suckers. (Again.) When you follow the money you discover that rich real estate speculators (like the Donald) really hated those property taxes that paid for public education. Demolish the public schools and you can pretend you demolished the need for those property taxes.

Should have coated the dark truth in an intentionally absurd solution
