Losing weight will help, but not make it go away. It takes time and great effort to lose weight. Until you have had it don’t be too cruel. It is dangerous and can pinch and/or rub nerve bundles in two. Sciatica is some of the worst pain I have known.
While my BMI is only 23, I well know where many of you are coming from, as I fell over 35 years ago and ruptured the disc between L4 & 5. I was off work 3 months and was advised by the Osteo Surgeon that I would be plagued with the pain the rest of my life unless I keep the muscles around the spine in prime condition. He highly recommended ample swimming and walking for therapy. He was exactly right, as at 80 years of age, I only have discomfort if I let the muscles go soft…then back to exercising. NO pain pills.
Also 15 years ago I WAS crippled with osteo arthritis. I found through much reading of the right materials, I chose to change my life style a bit. I cut out most all sugars and acids, pop, coffee most red meats, etc. There are also 4 members of the nightshade family I needed to cut out of my diet…potatos, tomatos, bell peppers and egg plant. As a result, I am at least 95% free of athritis. Again, NO pain pills I am blessed.
Stress is also a factor AVOID IT.
I hope this helps someone.
By the way, in case anyone is puzzled about my funny ’sign- in, is my real name spelled backwards.

For those who didn’t catch it, the little back-pain demon was used in the comics ads back in the 50’s and 60’s to advertise for Ben-Gay.

“You Ain’t Going Nowhere” is an old Bob Dylan song. The cover version by The Byrds is better known.

Check out the demon’s expression in panel 5 – dismay that there might be something to get rid of him.

Try getting into migraine medication when you have a splitting headache.
