    when grabbed by a drowing, panicked person, go DOWN, they don’t want to go down, so they will push off of you and you can come up elsewhere. Once they are unconscious, they are safer to handle.

    This is only one of the reasons a lifeguard needs training. A drowning person is very dangerous.

    That’s why you always use the rescue buoy. Never try to approach an active drowner.

    Doing that is very dangerous drowning people are dangerous, if they try to flail and grab you, you have to dunk them

    I had this happen to me. I was held out but a tide and couldn’t get in but wasn’t going out either. A friend came to see why I was out there and he panicked and tried to use me as flotation. Luckily we were seen and dragged to shore. DON"T PANIC!
