Love it. Great riff on Burns/Allen. Funny, quick, punchy—great comedy. @Susan: So THAT’S what the “Refresh” button is for. I had thought you pushed it after, well, you know, when you wanted to, well, you know, again. Good morning all. Forecast is for 104 here today. Tomorrow we break the all-time record for >100 days with no end in sight. God promised he wouldn’t send another flood, but he didn’t say he wouldn’t burn us up!
Bigger question is…… Who are the rest of the people in the picture……… ?.I recognize Marlene, Dale and Timmy………… but who are the other two …….? Inquiring minds…………..
Okay Susan, (and everyone else) I am new here and the comments are a nice touch. I like the fact that the cartoonists and fans are able to get an almost instant feedback. I have also noticed that several strips have their regulars. I will probably become one, therefore I would like to clear the air, if I may.
First I will apologize, I didn’t mean to insult anyone’s intelligence on the feature of the ‘refresh’, I was trying to be helpful. After I submitted it, I read it and thought it may sounded a little condescending, that was not my intent, it just didn’t seem that way when I said it. Hindsight you know.
Also, I do tend to stay away from politics in humor, just I saw that little joke as a harmless one and was making a point on sarcastic humor. Honestly, I have heard the same joke before toward several politicians through the years (okay, I admit that joke wasn’t an original) . And at my age I have seen many through the years and I have seen that (or even told) that joke on both major parties and maybe a few bosses that I have had. I wasn’t trying to start a political forum.
My hobbies do include stand-up and writing, both houmous and serious. I often find it hard not to slip in a joke when I see an opportunity. This has gotten me in trouble more than once and even lost me a couple of girlfriends in my past.
I see a few regulars here and hope to become part of your little critique group? Fan base? However you vision yourselves. So, i don’t want to alienate people from the start and please accept my apology is I said anything to offend and acknowledge, I did not, nor would not on purpose. Sometimes my talking (and my writing) is faster than my thinking.
As I think we will often see input from both of us here and there, I hope we can start off on the right foot (or the left one if need be). Even be cyber-buddies on here. I don’t mind you letting me know when I crossed the line, I just ask you let me explain or apologize, or both.
I also am a compulsive talker and tend to ramble a lot too, as you probably have guessed by now.
s’okay, Roy, that was a long time ago, and always learned from each experience. Now I have a wife who just rolls her eyes at me and says, “I should expect that coming from you”! And nowadays I keep my grandchildren laughing. They are defiantly the best audience for any standup routine I can do, except my wife sometimes scolds me for some of the jokes I tell them. lol For them ‘snot’ jokes hilarious, for her, not so much.
Always read this strip and the comments, don’t always comment, been around here a long time, and at comics.com, but never commented there, on any of the strips. Today’s comments, ROFLMAO! Howdy Dave!
NoBody looked at the picture…………. or answered my question………………. Is this site about the comic….……… or am I wasting my time commenting about the comic……. And instead……… should I be making this site my persomnal Facefbook…….??? You guys need to figure this out quickly……….
@ Gymshoe- I just ordered a new wall phone for my kitchen (because my bird bit off the power cord so caller ID is not working there). I only have land lines and with others using cell (and seeing the poor reception) I’ll pass on those. I usually check in before breakfast but email and FB sometimes take my time-just doing it at bedtime.
Anyway, sorry…. I’ve been out since my earlier posts.
But yeah, I don’t mind if sometimes we take a little detour into welcoming a new person or fixing a site problem (that’s really what the escape key business was about.)
I do like getting to know my fellow posters a bit (you included — we’ve said hello too, which I enjoy), though I think most of what I say most days is about the strip.
after all that discussion, I didn’t make yet another post to talk about today’s strip, because I apologised just yesterday for posting so much.
And also cos I simply didn’t have very much to say about it.
BTW my early 90’s corded phone died only last year, and it was designed to hang as a wall phone if desired.
It had a little screen that displayed caller ID, so it’s not just on cordless and cell phones.
I should get a new one just to have something in a power outage, though any extra features wouldn’t work then, anyway, only the voice line.
I have a cell phone but there’s no way I could afford enough minutes to give up a land line! Also much better if I ever need 911.
See? Now I need to apologise again! Sorry all.
It’s OK GymShoe, it’s worth it if it helps at all. I like your posts and don’t want you to leave. :)

G’morning everybody.
LOL – had to go back to yesterday to see what the heck you were talking about, Mikie….
Alas, even completely closing and reopening the page didn’t work.
Two hours later the comments were visible. But don’t worry, I’m sure it’s just poltergeists.
Meanwhile, I always thought the refresh button would throw water on me!
I’ve been tempted to use it when I wake up in my chair, like I did half an hour ago, but I really hate wet keyboards.
If it works for what you….well…. um….blush….please let me know, in case anyone ever needs….. never mind.

RayC — LOL!!!!
Dave — I wasn’t insulted — I thanked you. I just meant I’d already tried that.
My comment today was in answer to Mikie’s joke.
As for getting in trouble with jokes, I understand.
It’s the story of my life.
In fact I got in a lot of hot water on Pearls just yesterday, unless it was the day before.
Sigh….
And about the politics — some newbies here don’t realise how easy it is to turn any forum on this site into a raging debate.
An anti-Obama joke isn’t “harmless”, it’s partisan.
I happen to support the President, but I didn’t want to argue; I wanted to nip it in the bud before others inflamed the discussion.
Meanwhile — welcome aboard, though nobody, not even the pointy-elbowed Marg, can speak for all of us….. um….
oops…
Marg don’t hit me, OK? I didn’t mean it….. honest.

Even though I’m part Irish, I detest step dancing (as done in River dance etc) just as much as corned beef with boiled cabbage-horrid!

And all the “decor” in the Dinette set’s homes is many decades old-not just phones.-that table lamp for example…
