Okay. Three things.First, you left out the meat, the substance, of the Faulkner quote: “There is no such thing as was—only is. If was existed, there would be no grief or sorrow.”Second, it’s a good thing Eudora Welty was a novelist and not an accountant, “It’s all right, too, for words and appearances to mean more than one thing—ambiguity is a fact of life.” Lastly, “زندگی افسانه ای است که از زبان دیوانه ای نقل شود، آکنده از خشم و هیاهو که هیچ معنایی ندارد” — William Faulkner

The teepee in the blog is most likely a restroom at a Wigwam Motel:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wigwam_Motel
These were a series of motor-court style motels, built starting in 1933, where the cabins were made like teepees. They were placed in Kentucky, Alabama, Louisiana, Florida, Arizona and California. The whites-only sign on the door suggests this picture was taken in the South before desegregation (I don’t recall seeing any segregated restrooms when I grew up in California, but it wouldn’t surprise me to learn there’d been some.)
There’s a sublime absurdity to a “White Only” sign on the door of an Indian-style building.
Always lovely to see Godzilla on the blog: http://obituarytypo.blogspot.com/2011/08/riot-police.htmlI must point out, however, that he’s positioned too low in the frame, creating the impression that he must have impossibly short legs. He’s also too small in relation to the cops, but that seems like a minor issue compared to the leg deformity.

I love the writing of Eudora Welty. She uses language like Escoffier used food, making it sear or tickle or make love to the tongue.

“The past is never dead. It’s not even past.” Wm. Faulkner, Requiem for a Nun—not to beat a dead horse, or anything like that.
