I (evilly) enjoy seeing parents suffering like this, like my parents never had to. We went through the store like little robots. And our abusive mother got compliments on how well-behaved we were. Now as an adult, about once a month I go through the store and buy like a kiddie. Did it last nite. XD XD
A lot of breakfast cereals are loaded with sugar, even the ones that are supposed to be good for you. Life is 19% sugar (almost 1/5). No wonder Mikey likes it! And a granola might be 25% or even 28% sugar!
That’s why I buy my weekly groceries in a Sprouts. I’m sure if I took the grandkids they still might find some junk, but at least it would be organic or whole grain. I haven’t had cereal in years. When I visited my youngest grandson back when he was 2, I took a baggie with ground cinnamon that I buy in bulk and ate ww toast (buttered) with a good layer of cinnamon- he said that he liked “grandma’s Pop Tarts”. If kids are just given healthier choices when young, they will learn to like that.
Very true. All of that junk doesn’t really satisfy your body, and really is a waste of money and calories. It’s fine for an occasional treat, but for daily sustenance? No way.
I was allowed to pick our two items for myself when I was a kid doing grocery shopping with my parents. It I saw a third item I wanted, I was told to put one of the other items back.
Elly, Elly, Elly. When are you and Andy Fox going to learn that healthful food is only healthful if you can get anyone else to EAT it?
Look, kids like what they like, and no amount of dressing up hateful stuff up is going to change that (there’s a reason that my mother never could get me to eat liver, no matter how hard she tried — and it’s something I still won’t eat to this day!) Just learn to compromise once in a while, and you’ll find that getting the kids to eat well won’t be nearly the hassle that your overreaction could potentially make it.
What was Elly thinking sending John to the grocery store with two little kids in tow like that?! She knows how Michael and Lizzie can be when they see junk food! Buying all that sugary crap for his children . . . and he’s a dentist too! If it weren’t for some of the snarky comments he bravely makes to his wife sometimes, I’d think he was completely spineless!!!
legaleagle48, I’m with you on the liver. My mom never did get me to eat it. I couldn’t get past the smell and would go without any supper rather than eat that hateful stuff. (I did almost eat some once as an adult, but only because I didn’t know what it was until I got it in my mouth – it was in a Vietnamese soup. It went into my napkin within seconds!)
my 16 year old will do the grocery shopping for me sometimes and he will only buy what I ask, and he often will choose the healthier item over the junk food.. in fact when he was younger he had a serious hate-on for anything processed or “junky”…. refusing burgers with processed cheese and such..then he turned into a teenager LOL :)But since I fed him healthy REAL food ONLY for the first 5 years or so, it has stuck and although he likes SOME junk food, he will make sure that he has healthy food on a regular basis, and says that he doesn’t feel good if he doesn’t.

I love Lynn/Elly’s hyperbolic scream. I feel like doing that myself sometimes. Lovely artwork.

Never send your kids grocery shopping alone .. even if they’re with their father :-)

Which do you want? Food, or stuff kids will eat?
(Food, of course, but tell that to the kids. No wonder childhood obesity is such a problem.)

Their dad is a dentist, usually they aren’t so willing to let their kids have junk
