I did great special birthdays for all my kids growing up, until the one where they were of an age when the boys who came to my son’s party (where I had mailed faux passports because he had classmates from many ethnic backgrounds, so I thought a good idea to do a world traveler theme). I asked everyone to wear things that represented that, and did a cake of a world map, and large blue balloons on which I drew world maps. I don’t remember all the details, because that boy is now 50, but the party ended when the kids did a food fight in my basement. Parents back in those days took control and sent the sons back the next day to help clean up the mess- but that was the last birthday party.
And James still having a hand stamp from 2 months ago? Eeww!

Ruthie may not be the parties some parents throw for their little preschool kids.
