Transcript:
Tiffany: "Look at you, all big colorful bags and red polka dots"
Luann: "Hey, I do know how to shop, Tiffany"
Tiffany: "O..."
Luann: "What"
Tiffany: "I don't get what you just said. I'm talking about your face"
As a foreigner, I offer my deepest wishes and condolences to a scarred (not scared) nation. I am sitting at work on a Sunday, and I cannot do or think of anything other than how shattered I was ten years ago.
And Greg has been wise in not making it a 9/11 themed strip today. This board has always flared up with politics on the most innocuous points, so I salute him for minimising the chance of that happening on this sombre day.
Today’s joke was actually pretty funny with its word play but the tiny 9-11 thing is a little off-putting to me, if Greg was going to reference 9-11, I think he should have had a Sunday strip having Brad and Frank/Toni/Nancy discussing how 9-11 changed him for the better and inspired him to make something of himself … though seeing as how he isn’t even a firefighter anymore that would be a tad problematic but still I think it could have been more tasteful to represent that the firefighters brave efforts that day were what inspired him. It seems more respectful than a tiny panel.
thank you for the small tribute, Greg………… and Tiff? you should have stuck with the clothing, not talk about her face, as there is nothing wrong with Lue’s face, how bad is Lue’s clothing? Bern looks a thousand times more glamorous than her(despite Bern going her usual plain look), and despite the shorts having dots that match her shirt, I don’t like the “green and red-orange tones combination”, maybe a darker green would have been better
There are “Witches” like Tiffany in every school in America. They will get theirs when they have to live in the real world. Boo hoo hoo! I’ve seen their shocked, confused looks at reality, when it bops them right in the kisser, and they deserve every second of it. I just wish more of their undeserving targets could see it. The whole strip should have been 9/11- related.
If you’re looking for 9/11 memorials, go watch TV; there are plenty there. We all know what happened 10 years ago today. Yes, it was a horrible day. But these strips remind us that there is still good and hope and laughter in the world and that life goes on. Do your own comic strip if you need the therapy. I appreciate both the strip and the nod to 9/11. I’m tired of some people wanting EVERYTHING to be about 9/11.
Greg, I think it is time for there to be some retirements in the fire department and Brad be reinstated. There is a great future in his being a firefighter.
I think Greg did the right thing by not overdoing the 9-11 remembrance. And I’m WAY too empathetic; I lost no one but I shed actual tears with many tributes- I’d be totally bummed out if every strip were the one theme!!
Tiff is as ditz as ever, she is one-track mind, she honestly does not know what Lue is talking about, as Tiff sees “handbags and polka dots” as Lue’s face, she did not notice the actual handbags and the polka dots in Lue’s shorts
Sure, it doesn’t all need to be about 9/11, but it would have been a great strip to show the opposite of this one: one where Luann and Tiffany were trying to be nice to each other. It could have been funny while trying to make the point of showing that enemies can try to get along.
*gee Greg, you’re damned if you do, and damned if you don’t. I think it was fine, and 9/11 to me now means the death of my father on this day 2 years ago.
From my standpoint, it looks like Greg did not realize the strip he submitted would be published on the 10th anniversary of 9-11 and added the tribute later rather than drawing a new one and re-submitting as there was probably no time for that. Some cartoonists have a bunch of Sunday strips already drawn and complied to be submitted for any Sunday, so this one was submitted for today. Anyway, there are probably a little too much of the 9-11 memorial going on today….TV, papers, people talking about it, Facebook…. so I think Greg’s simple tribute sufficed.
There is an editorial cartoon tributing the 10th anniversary of 9-11 from all the cartoonists, so that included Greg and all others who didn’t draw a tribute to today. I liked the Mother Grimm tribute the best. Here’s the link: http://www.cnn.com/2011/SHOWBIZ/09/09/cartoonists.remember.9.11/?&hpt=hp_c2
Just because a few comic strips didn’t go all the way out for 9-11 like the cartoonists for Blondie and Doonsbury did, doesn’t mean they don’t care, or do not think it’s a big deal. Everyone has their own way of coping with tragedies- and I think maybe Greg was sensitive about that. :-)
Good to see Brad back in uniform on this day of remembrance. Thank you to all firefighters, real and fictional, for what you do. And thanks for having a bit of Luann humor today when we need it.
As with receiving a present, it is not the size of the gift but the thought that counts. Some remember in a big way, others in a smaller contribution…..but they still REMEMBERED.
I was born on September 20th, 2001. My mom had a story about 9-11. On 9-11, I was 2 days late. As my mom watched the news about what was happening in New York, DC, and Shanksville, she prayed to God that I wouldn’t be born on that horrible day. I hate that 9-11 happened, and I cry every time I think about it. I will always remember 9-11.

I would have liked to see Brad and Toni in a remembrance from a firefighter’s perspective.

Greg chooses to remember what happen on this day in his own way, so be nice people since some of us DON’T want to forget what happen.

Gotta admit Luann dressed poorly today. Bernice dressed better. Tiff is being catty herself – one of her wonderful talents.

This is a new low even for Tiffany who is too self-absorbed to see how ugly she really is behind the tons of makeup on her supposedly pretty face.

“We” may remember, but it’s debatable whether Tiffany was ever aware of it at all.
