They forgot about my favorite part – the whole cocoon business. (I never metamorphosis I didn’t like)

Cute, and yet… Why is it that people think they’re doing kids favors by pretending death doesn’t exist? I know of a girl whose mother died, and they told her for weeks after that she was sick in the hospital. She didn’t get to go to the funeral, say goodbye, or grieve properly.

They must protect the child-like squirrel from the hard facts of life…at least until something eats him.

It’s cool he’s doing an education storyline!

Glad to see the real story come out- now, as “parent” never meets “child”, how DO the “next generations” know where to go? Too many wonderful mysteries in “nature” to always try to link them to “human” expectations, or explanations. We should just stop trying to create our myths to make it about “us”.

Potzreble: Monarchs are rather unique in lifespan – two or three years. That’s why they migrate – most others die in the fall.
bryan42 about 13 years ago
Actually, hippo, the average lifespan for a monarch is only about 1-1/2 months. The ones that hibernate (yes, hibernate) in Mexico live about 4 months but most of that asleep. It actually takes 4 generations to complete the annual migration.

Adult mayflies have no functional mouth parts, now if we could just “genetically modify” politicians!!

That’s SO cute! Poor Hammy would be heart-broken if he knew his new friend was gonna die.
