Parents shouldn’t have nice furniture that they value too much when they have young kids. Just sit back and enjoy the kids. Of course, when the kids begin to think rationally the parents can educate them to respect things.

@Arye….WHAT! You start teaching them respect at the earliest point. Wait until they think rationally and it will be too freaking late. My son knew what the rules were and repected them. Yes, there were accidents, but that’s part of life (not just growing up).

I will probably have slip covers on all my precious furniture when I have kids. If they stain the covers, that’s no problem, its cheaper than replacing the furniture. Besides the best weapon against graffiti is swift removal. If the mark is not enduring, they will stop leaving it.

You can even teach pets to respect things, get a cat a scratching post or whatever and keep the pet occupied and happy, obviously.
