Donner Pass is nowhere near Death Valley, Gerbilonawheel… and yes, you could get to Cali on a boat. San Francisco was a major port in the 19th c. Still is today.
There WERE a lot of handcarts on the pioneering trail. Do a little research…and, yeah, it must have been tough. Any one woman…or man, sometimes both…who made it to the West and onto the plains, as the Mormons frequently did that way…would be easily able to rip any of their fat, pastly, lazy, demanding, unfulfilled, small-minded sub-human Limbaugh-listening disssatisfied descendants…a new orfice.
Yeah: let’s all have a good laugh at people truly better than we are…
Some of the gold rushers used handcarts. Brigham Young felt that if the gold rushers could make it to California using handcarts for the sake of thier god, the Mormons could make it to the Salt Lake Valley using handcarts for the sake of theirs.
little known fact… while the ever-popular Conestoga "Rickshaw"s were imported, the economic benefits of the smaller size, reduced wheelbase and lighter weight, at times would have eagerly been traded for an American made “Caravan”

The Mormons actually migrated to Utah pulling handcarts that looked just like that.

Otherwise known as the handcart, which was cheaper to obtain then the actual wagon. This is why they were used.

Someone wise once told me that if you have a tent, you’ll never be homeless. This could be a tent, if you propped it up on something.

That’s not a conestoga. That’s more like a prairie schooner.
