Pearls Before Swine by Stephan Pastis for October 26, 2011
Transcript:
Rat: Looks like they finally caught that guy who's been robbing banks... it's the big house for him. Pig: Ooooh... do you suppose it has a nice study and pretty curtains? Audience Member: Boooooo that's about as funny as a 'Family Circus' comic. Rat: It's not every day you see a comic strip heckled. Jeffy: Hey... why is that an insult?

If we had had our fourth kid first, he might have been an only child!(Just kidding… we love all our kids the same… honest…)

Okay, which one of you guys stood up in front of the 4th wall and heckled? Not only was it not very nice, but it drew the attention of that insufferable FC kid![Terrific strip today, Stephan!]

I did that once and sent a letter. I was having a bad time. I felt forever guilty.

Look on the bright side, Rat.He didn’t say it was as funny as Mary Worth.

Think about it……..why would that dumb Pig be wondering about a study?

Pig would enjoy the contents of that big old desk that’s always in a study. Think of it…paper, pens, stapler, tape, paperclips (squee!) maybe even gummed reinforcements and brads!!

‘The Family Circus’ is MUCH funnier this way:

I love Powell’s book store. Was visiting there recently and found a neat book, “A Stroke of Insight” by Jill Bolte Taylor. Y’all ought to read it.

I’ve seen comics break the fourth wall before—but can’t remember one broken from outside, as it were.

The Family Circus has gotten better, I believe, actually… I believe someone “put the heat on” them… I find them more modern and up-to-date now, and am actually laughing at them and finding them funnier than a lot of the other comics I’d read recently… Then, this thing inside of me says, “No, it’s not possible!” So, then I just shrink away and pray the word doesn’t get out that I’m actually finding The Family Circus funny… What to DO?!

Why does he keep insulting his own comic strip? It’s getting very annoying!
Sherlock Watson about 13 years ago
You know who that heckler is, Jeffy? Not Me.
codedaddy about 13 years ago
Most of us don’t like politics mixed with their comics. I also feel that way about proselytising religious views. That’s my main gripe about Family Circus, and BC.
fugcheese about 13 years ago
I love it when the Family Circus kids make cameos……

Mr. Pastis is not responsible for this strip – it was the ‘not me’ ghost!
