Good morning Marg — and the rest of Crustwood, when you get here.
“24-hour Pain in the Neck.”The pharmacist called that one right!
Poor Burly-poo has a widdle cold…. and Momma Joy can have fun pampering him yet again.
He needs to know whether he’s coughing, so he can decide whether to call in sick tomorrow.
After all, he could be feeling fine, and make the mistake of going in….. when he actually coughed three times in the night and should take the day off.
The “Clown” label is right over his head — he can share it with the picture.
The ZZZ’s are clear to see…..and if you listen closely, you’ll hear some coming from me, soon -hopefully earlier than usual.
It happened again — I refreshed the list and then the whole page just before submitting my comment, and only Marg’s first post showed up…..and then mine under it.
Coming back in a few minutes later, I see I repeated some of what OddBall already said.
Sorry, OddBall — yours was invisible when I posted. And Good Morning!
Anyway, I’d forgotten to say that when I e-mailed Julie yesterday to thank her, she answered me again…
She mentioned that the images she submits for publication are far larger than what they post for us.
She’d already said she’d be checking with the syndicate about them…. so let’s hope it all works.
And for anybody who missed it — I e-mailed Julie Larson with a couple of our questions
and she kindly posted a long reply on yesterday’s forum…. take a look!
I can’t imagine Burl without a remote. The TV could have a knob and a remote, though if he had one I’m sure it would be lying on his tummy right now. I’m very disillusioned.
Thanks, Susan, for e-mailing Julie, and thanks to Julie for her reply on the forum. She’s truly a wonderful person. I’ve had dealings with her in the past and she went above and beyond to help me with a very nice Dinette Set gift for a friend who was attending a High School reunion. One of her panels was a PERFECT commentary on how our high school was, way back when, and I asked her if I could buy an autographed print. She even autographed it to my friend. They presented it to him at the banquet, and he talks about it to this day.
I’ve always liked reading The Dinette Set, but ever since Julie was so gracious, it’s become my favourite comic.
I agree thank you Susan, both for emaililng Ms. Larson and passing the word about the response.
I always wondered if the cartoonists come on here to read the responses of their readers. Aparently not all of them do. I suppose they do have other things to work on, and there are probably quite a few forum sites that it would probaly take a chunk of the day to check them all. I rather they put that time/energy into their art.
Poor Burl, does he hurts and gots a temperature? Ok, how many of you can tell me where I got that quote from? You may be showing your age here if you do. Which means, of course, I just dated myself.
I’ve often wondered how large an original Dinette Set comic is…Guess the only thing I haven’t seen asked is black and white versus color on the daily panel.
Something strange is going on. Today’s comic and the most recent ones have been small and b/w. I just clicked back through the last several to read comments and the panels were now large and color! Then I came back to today’s and it’s also large and color! ??? Did they just get retroactively updated?
No, mythreesons, not my complaining. I merely asked Julie whether the new, small B/W gifs were her choice or UClick’s, and whether they were re-runs as some said.
As I said above, I also let her know, in Kb, the sizes being run.
She said she’d speak to the syndicate and I’m assuming she did, for which I just thanked her, again.(Yes, my Mama taught me to be insufferably polite. Yay Julie!
And yeah, Purple Sky, she seems very nice, indeed.
Phil, since she re-uses panels, I’m guessing the “original originals” were pretty large.
All I know is she said she submits them (electronically, I presume) at 400Kb.
They don’t look like they’re lettered on a computer so maybe she prints out large blank copies to hand letter —
or…. maybe she does use a Wacom tablet or something similar.
I actually came back because I saw on evening news of the passing of Bill Keene who lived here in the valley. Family Circus was always a pleasant cartoon among the many that I read. Nice to see that his son will take over.

Poor baby Burl. You’re right, SS, he might cough in the night, and accidently go to work. The horror!

note the tuner knobs on the TV, and neither of them has a remote……too cheap to buy a new (<40 years old) tv?

ElGuapo – all I did was e-mail, which anybody can….
so….. sniffle…. I don’t consider myself “connnected”….
Well, except, of course, for my NOT R.Crumb original rOdd Perry avatar [nyah nyah nyah… :) ]
Hope you saw the Terry Zwigoff movie. One of the most strangely compelling films I ever saw.
And I’m a 60’s hippie too — in both senses.

And thanks to Susan for doing what the rest of us did not and to Julie for fixing the problem- you have both done a service to all Crustwoodians!
