Mary Lou tells Janis, "The burgers were great, Mrs. Day!" Janis says, "Thank you!" Janis then says, "You men get out of here while Mary Lou and I clean up." Gene exclaims, "Mom! Mary Lou's a guest!" Mary Lou tells Gene, "Oh, I don't mind. Go on!" Gene remarks, "Something's fishy!" As Arlo leads him out, Gene asks, "Mom's not going to kill her, is she?" Arlo replies, "Have I ever told you you watch too much television?"

I can probably count on one hand, with fingers left over, how many times their last name is actually mentioned. I think Gene’s high school graduation is one.
