Hank O’Hair! Makes sense, since Brenda left the Flash in her final strip. And it makes sense that Tracy would know one of the editors, and not just a reporter (like Brenda Starr was “just” a reporter).Reading Dick Tracy these days reminds me of when I used to read Marvel Comics back in the 60s, and the frequent guest appearances heroes made in each others’ books. It was always a special treat to see Spider-Man cross paths with the Fantastic Four, as well as adding to the overall texture of the stories.I really wish Mike and Joe could (like those long ago days of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby at Marvel) produce Tracy as well as another strip (or two), such as a revival of Annie or Brenda.

“Beak nosed” is so harsh! In the future, Hank, please use the word “aquiline.”

PS: You look like a woman.

Hank is a woman. And we were rope-a-doped! Most commenters, myself included, expected to see Brenda as today’s guest. But Hank’s appearance instead does make good sense. That Sizzler happened to be “a previous owner” of a car used in a hit-and-run murder seems tenuous, however, unless there is some more evidence yet to be revealed.

Nice tribute. If possible ( copyright reasons ) have Brenda Starr give an appearance too. Maybe a teamup/guest shot. Like one commentator about what Marvel did in the 1960’s maybe be able to do in this strip. Of course not to overdo it.

I’m certainly glad to have these comments as I read the strip. I don’t know what I would do without you reference hounds. I could I get some of you guys to help me with Dennis Miller, too.

It’d be great if we find out that Hank is working on a story of a missing girl and we find out that the missing girl is . . . Annie!

According to Jay Maeder, in his book about Dick Tracy, Capt. Joseph Medill Patterson (Chester Gould’s boss) hated the comic strip Brenda Starr so much that he refused to let it run in his New York Daily News. It was two full years after his death in 1946 before the News started using the strip. It did, however, run in his sister publication, the Chicago Tribune. So, Mike, Joe and Company are having a gentle chuckle here on more than one level. Very clever.

Bil Keane is dead? No big loss, tho as a kid I did like his local Philadelphia comic “Silly Philly”, starring a mute miniature Billy Penn. Sixty years later I still smile at the silly pun about the man who was gathering guano at a bird refuge to use as fertilizer:“What do you have there?”“Sanctuary mulch.”“You’re welcome.”

Love the casual reference to Brenda (“a story Brenda was investigating”)—no need to explain who she is. But will we get to see La Starr?

Gentlemen: The strip has turned out to be more than I ever dreamed up; You’ve definitely brought the strip back, back to the feel of the 70s :). You know this cross-strip has reminded me of several cross overs I’ve read before. Especially the Victorian era books that featured Sherlock Holmes teaming up or tracking down ones like Mr Hyde, or yes, the League of Extraordinary gentlemen.

Keep up the good work! I can’t wait to see your tribute to Bill Keane too.

Tracy may know the editor, but he would know the reporter much better who covers the police beat everyday. City editors rarely go on story assignments at the papers I worked at.

I hope we have some more cross-overs…maybe from some more classic strips of the past….can you imagine Tracy hopping into a cab driven by Moon Mullins….or B.O. Plenty in a feud with Snuffy Smith Or maybe have a fire being fought by Smokey Stover??

Maybe Daddy Warbucks will contact Dick Tracy to help save Annie from that killer that kiddnapped her while back. After all, if the Brenda Starr people can cross over so can the Annie people!

@david452—Brenda, a freelancer? How totally like her to be just like the rest of us journalists thrust into the modern world of reporting for great metropolitan newspapers (figure out that reference!) and magazines. Love seeing Hank (and who is the redhead in the background—not Pesky, he’s a blond).
