My wife and I will be putting together another “care package” for our nephew Robbie, a Marine on his second tour of duty in Afghanistan. We’ll be including the Rip Haywire books along with the tube socks and stuff this time. Go Rip and Robbie!!!!

Great sentiment and art, Dan! Being a Navyman, I recognize the F-14 Tomcat in pane 1 and what looks like a Burke-class Destroyer with a LAMPS 3 going on patrol in pane 3. Though it could be a Tico-class Cruiser.

In Bermuda, we call today Remembrance Day, but the reason for this holiday is the same as in the U.S..Rip Haywire… A comic strip hero who appreciates the real-life heroes.

Thanks, Dan. I had ancestors in the American Revolution and the Civil War, and my father was in the Navy from 1950-1953.

Memories of how Milton Caniff would do his Steve Canyon strip on veterans day—being a Navy WW2 Vet from service in the South Pacific on The U.S.S. St. Croix APA 231, I want to thank you Dan Thompson!!

I, too am thankful Mr. Thompson didn’t forget us grunts, squids, jarheads, and airheads on this date. There are some veterans that still like reading good comic books and comic strips (’This includes yours, Mr. Dan Thompson!) out there in this crazy world. Thank you Mr. Thompson, from one retired US Air Force Sergeant.

Thank you, Everyone! My Dad was a Veteran who served in Japan during Korea with the Air Force as an M.P. …His big story was having to help guard Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio while they were over there with the U.S.O !

My dad was in the navy, two of my uncles were in the navy and my niece’s husband is going into the naval reserve. Thanks for the strip.

Didn’t see my brother (just recently re-upped after 13 years in the Marines last month) today, but hopefully I can catch him this weekend while he’s in town.
