No one has seen a Montgomery Wards in years because they closed all their stores in 2001. They emerged from bankruptcy as the online retailer “Wards.” The irony is that they started in 1874 as a mail order retailer and then expanded into "brick and mortar department stores.
My dad always called them “Monkey Wards”—he only bought there if Sears didn’t have what he wanted.+++++I’m wondering if the wand is working as advertized, or if it’s making random animals when it transmogrifies?
I remember Montgomery Wards real well. As a teenager, some of my favorite clothes were bought there. Then we bought our kids clothes there when they were real small. Those were the days!
My family bought me a cheap plastic record player at Wards in 1977, with a spring counterballance on the tone arm. The record labels were also in a race to the bottom of quality, so that the record player could not play any current records, just better made older records. Shortly after that, even cheap record players started being made with counter-weighted tone arms. I wasn’t sad to see the stores go.

How many readers are old enough to get the “Montgomery Wand (Ward)” pun?

Looks like she’s sparking a bit. You should take that into Ollivander’s for a tuneup. Hope he works on off brands.
