Your problem, Karen, is that CFLs are incredibly efficient — very little of their energy becomes waste heat. A very good thing for the environment and you electric bill, but not if you’re trying to use it for things other than lighting.

My friend had one of those when we were kids. I think it needed a 150 or 200 watt bulb.
