There was a woman that worked as a landlord’s assistant at an apartment complex I used to live at. No one knew the word “Anoesis” at that time, so we all just called her “waste of space”.I would have guessed this one if I just had a little more time for it!

Wow, that $1000 bucks was as safe as if it were in a bank.
Oh, sorryNevermind.

Anoesis is derived from the Greek word noesis meaning reason or intellect and the prefix a- meaning not. “Boy, does that shoe fit the horse.”

I think that Wiley has a new “Mrs. Byrnes 365 Day-Calendar” and was just dying for a chance to use it. Sophomanic would have been a good choice, too.

Love it. Great word, so appropriately used.

If I wanted an education, I would do a crossword puzzle. I just like a laugh in the morning. Tough to carry a dictionary on the subway.

This is just crazy!

Well, I read this on my computer, so I could Google it. Looked like “ANDESIS”, though, which apparently isn’t a word, and I had to go back and check it again, by which time it was too late even to smile. Timing is important, and if you have to take a break to look up a word, it spoils it.

Self-diagnosing yesterday, were we? ;-D
Sandfan about 13 years ago
Okay, Wiley. Yesterday I suggested Clueless, and all you did was translate it to Greek. Where’s my check?

Calvin N, thanks for the pronunciation guide: doing more reading than intelligent conversation, I tend to mispronounce a lot.

A little while back there was a cute LA Times crossword that had a AA Milne quotation: Have you ever stopped to think, then forgot to start again?
Barbaratoo about 13 years ago
I don’t get it…

I wonder if I could get that on my license plate.

Not to belabor the LA Times crosswords, but NonSequitur was one of the answers in today’s puzzle.

Great way to insult someone without his/her knowledge.
DavidGBA about 13 years ago
Maybe it just means ‘gut feel only’ analysis. Nothing in the definition says that cognitive processing would improve or even preserve the sensation and emotion value.

There is no listing for andesis – but andesit means gray flat rock..seems appropiate..Anoesis is absence of thought – equally good…MVP who never misses a morning
weasleman4 about 13 years ago
Knowing what it means now really makes the comic funnier. Very appropriate word.
Destiny23 about 13 years ago
I read ten definitions online, and I still don’t comprehend the concept. Good thing I wasn’t a psyche major!(Could failure to comprehend the definition of “anoesis” be considered ironic?)(And why doesn’t spell check recognize “anoesis”?? For shame!)

That ‘o’ looked more like a ‘d’ to me . . . so I was so confused! Thanks Destiny23!

anoesis: a state of mind consisting of pure sensation or emotion without cognitive content.Otherwise known as a woman’s state of mind when she goes shopping with her man’s hard earned money.
Ernest Lemmingway about 13 years ago
Yeah, anoesis is Cap’n Eddy in one word. Come to think of it, that’s also politicians, bankers, and corporate execs in one word. At least the part about no thinking; I’m becoming convinced the latter three are sociopaths to a one and thus can’t feel emotion.
LingeeWhiz about 13 years ago
Huh? I’m in a state of anoesis.
Hunter7 about 13 years ago
Great word. dictionary.com – lousy site. So many ads, no wonder its free.

… and I’m inserting links to this strip to my social media and email discussion activities. So there.
