Parrot: So... how was Thanksgiving at Monty's? Moondog: Oh, awesome. We had a great, big, juicy, roasted... Parrot: What? Roasted what? Moondog: Umm... a roasted tofu slab... it... it was good. Parrot: Wonder why I wasn't invited... Moondog: Probably just an oversight. Parrot: Well, I've heard rumors that traditionally, some people roast... I don't know how to put this delicately... a... bird... Moondog: What? Really? A bird? Well, maybe some savage tribe in a remote rainforest... region.

And coat it with blankets of its own gravy. And piles of its own giblets on the side. Oh, the HORROR!

The tribe displays reverence for the sacrificial avian by stuffing sacred herbs and breadcrumbs up its butt

Mammals, including humans, eat other mammals. It’s the species, not the order, that counts.

are there not birds that eat other birds as well?

Couldn’t everybody avoid the argument by having ham for Thanksgiving? Surely Pilsner wouldn’t care about roasting a pig.

We ate eye-round steak for Thanksgiving this year, just to shake things up.

Mom did stew & dumplings back in October. When the real Thanksgiving is observed. When the roads are relatively dry, and most places have no snow. She didn’t want to dirty her brand new stove. sigh. .Sorry Pilsner. Looking forward to TURKEY at Christmas!

People sometimes commented on the fact that my cockatoo ate eggs regularly (as does my cute little Timneh African grey). There is no relation to poultry from our lovely smart parrots, but Cuddles Cockatoo stopped eating eggs because those people made her feel guilty; Fitzroy does not understand people so it doesn’t matter to him. Birds who understand our language can be affected by our opinions (even when wrong), still I like that MoonDog is trying to spare Pilsner. I would just share the meal and explain that he is in no way related to a turkey!!
