    South Boston and Dorchester are contiguous, and Gloucester and Cape Cod are less than an hour from Boston. If that’s their itinerary, I was right about GBT’s parochial view of Massachusetts.On the other hand, if they actually make the two-hour drive to Pittsfield in western Mass, then lwp is right and GBT understands that MA is more than Beantown.

    Well … c’mon. If Alex had morphed into a typical Bostonian, her itinerary would stop around Rte. 128; your average eastern Massachusetts resident only has a vague notion that the rest of the state exists.

    @Morgil Ravenswing, that’s very true. I’m Pittsfield born and raised and I live in Boston now. I’ve met far too many native Bostonians who fit your description, I’ve started saying I’m from the Berkshires so they’ll at least have a clue as to how far West I grew up.

    I’m somewhat amazed that GT knows that Pittsfield exists. Most people don’t.

    Grams was an idiot for just not standing firm and telling Alex NO. Some kids just can’t deal with NO. Alex is clearly one of them and needs to be told it a few times.

    From where we rented in MA, Cape Cod was two hours east, and Pittsfield andTanglewood were 1 1/2 hours west. Gloucester could be final stop on return to Boston for these two. Lordy, I miss my vacations in MA!

    “…they unfortunately pass by Worcester …”. How do they pronounce “… Worcester”? When I visited it, it sounded to me like “Wuh-stuh”.

    Just heard JFK on a vid: “We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard …”. The “R” in “other” he pronounced correctly (i.e., in “dictionary talk”.) But for he “R” in “hard” he slipped back into “Worcester talk”: “hahd”. Go figure.
