Well remember that day, even though I was but 10 years old.Visited that site some years ago. Most humbling. We were attacked again in much the same manner on 9 11. Lest we forget.
If you are going to be in Honolulu around Veterans Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day or September 11th, the Fleet Reserve Association solicits volunteers to help fly flags on the actual Arizona Memorial above the ship. These flags are then for sale in the store at the memorial site. It takes about 4 hours all told, and they are always looking for volunteers. The times I did it, we flew between 1200 and 1600 flags of all sizes.
Thanks for the memory. I had nine uncles who enlisted after that event… they all came home safe. They have all since gone to their eternal home – God bless them all!!!
I’ve been to the U.S.S. Arizona Memorial in Honolulu, Hawaii. A truly humbling experience. God bless all our veterans — past and present . . . and God Bless America!
I was just short of 5 years old when the Pearl Harbor attack took place, and I sort of remember how my parents acted that day. I was raised in San Francisco and we had air raid drills and “blackouts” frequently. A point of correction to today’s cartoon- Roosevelt said a DATE which shall live…, not a DAY which shall live…
I was born on 1954, joined the Nacy in 1972. In 1976 I joined a team of Navy Divers to inspect the hull for leaks, and yes, it is still leaking fuel oil. It was so eerie, I could hear the entombed.

While today’s youth have already forgotten about what they knew yesterday, we adults will never forget what happen on both 12-7-41 and 9-11-01.

I have had the good fortune to meet two survivors. Talk to old vets while you can! (Soon I’ll be happy to dispense my Cold War memories.)
