I suspect nookie may have come from a Dutch word that I can’t write here. I certainly can’t write the translation. But nook by itself is a corner. Make of it what you will. And look up the classic Little Lulu story where Lulu and Alvin spend most of the story repeating the words ‘foot’ and ‘feet’ because they’ve made the same type discovery Rita has.
I’ve been thinking about getting a Nook. I already have a Knook. That is a device that is half knitting needle and half crochet hook. To use a Knook to make a knitted fabric is called Knooking. So I will be able to read a pattern on a Nook to do Knooking with my Knook. I will never be able to explain what I’m doing with a straight face. I can’t even type it with a straight face.

Nook, the abbreviated form of “nookie” means something quite different in Australian slang….

Did Rita just say “Nookity nook nook!”? GASP! There’s no need for that sort of language!

I guess anyone who thinks there’s something wrong with the word can take it up with Barnes & Noble.
