Doonesbury by Garry Trudeau for January 22, 2012
Transcript:
Zonker: Not another pop quiz! I may have bitten off more than I can chew... Sam: Zonker, do they give you a lot of homework at Trump University? Zonker: Um... I'm not enrolled at Trump anymore, Sam. Sam: You're not? Why not? Zonker: The state of New York ruled it wasn't a real university, so I transferred to Glenn Beck U. At $74.95, Beck University is a better value anyway. And it's a lot hotter! Sam: That's important to you? Zonker: Um... no. But, see, Trump just wasn't meeting my needs, and... and... don't look at me with those shaming eyes! Sam: Someone isn't being true to his school.

This is a rerun, first published on August 8, 2010. Sam still has her big, innocent eyes. GO GIANTS!!!

“Someone isn’t being true to his school.”
Not being true to his cool, either — what with downcasting his face, smiting his forehead, blocking Sam’s gaze, and all!

Some years ago GT had a Doonesbury show on Broadway bridging the gap between the college years and adult life. When Zonker realized he accumulated enough credits to actually graduate his reaction was priceless, his dream of being a professional student shattered.

James Carville on Newt’s trouncing of Mitt yesterday in South Carolina’s primary: “[The GOP’S] new front-runner is one of your old front runners, Newt Gingrich. I would like to take a moment to revel: I cannot personally tell you how pleased I am to see old Newt rise to the top after listening to all of your nauseating, sickening lectures on the evils of government and the importance of family values. “Now, you guys have to deal with a $1.6 million Freddie Mac consultant (who says he wasn’t a lobbyist) who has been married three times. Hope you, at least, enjoy the Super Bowl. It could be your last hurrah for a while.” http://www.cnn.com/2012/01/21/opinion/carville-republican-disaster/index.html

those both are scams. many for profit online schools are scams. if you really need a degree, go to community college. cheaper, and can transfer the credits to an university and they are not scams.

>> compared to Obama (the satan of evil), Newt is a choirboy.
I can’t think of any fact that would support this assertion.
Go Tottenham!

I hope the republicans/tea party run Mr. Gingrich as their nominee. It will make voting President Obama all the sweeter.

As for on line courses have to be careful there. Many are scams.
If one is going to go with online. Make sure there is an accredited brick and mortar behind it. In my area that would be Devry.. even some of the top collages in my small corner of Pa are trying on line courses.
Welcome to 21rst century where the death of the athletic department might be because of a majority of the students have never even been on campus.

Look at the numbers from yesterday … Newt was carried to victory by that most bizarre of hybrids, the Christian Free Capitalist

Stick a sock in it, Sammy. Considering how hard it must be for all you faux-conservatives to stick to your unlivable tenets and to keep your word, it’s obvious that most of you have become serial liars for gain, thru mis-use of political process.
Newt? your true leader. Criminality and satan-worship will out, all right.

Rerun eh, Trudeau must be tailgating with Trump and all the other Giant fans. I can feel a big day for Patrick Willis, just put a Newt face on the Giant backfield. Can’t wait to sit on the couch with Miss Nancy and watch the game on the big screen.

I like the contrast between Sam’s neat barrettes and Zonker’s unruly hair. It shows that she’s already adopting the self-discipline that her aging nanny has steadfastly shirked.

Off-topic here, but are ACTUAL choirboys noteworthy for their innocence, piety, and/or good behavior? They’re still boys in packs, after all.
Does it make a difference whether it’s an all-boys choir or a mixed group? Or would that just determine what kinds of trouble they can get into? “And if you meet a choirgirl who is similarly inclined…” (apologies to Tom Lehrer).

Pi hinted at Newt’s purpose when he suggested (yesterday) that SP might stand for “Serial Polygamist.”
By the way, my scriptural quotation (above) is from the Book of Mormon (Mitt 6:24).

Seeing all the team names makes me wonder. . . what’s the team name at Glenn Beck U?
TheWildSow almost 13 years ago
Go Steelers! LOL, I guess I’m living in the past ;-) Seriously, I hate both the Ravens AND the Bandits so much, I can’t really root for either. Bring on the Super Bowl — hopefully, the Giants!

“GO PACKERS! … Yeah, I still haven’t succumbed to reality. I’m so much fonder of my fantasy life.”
Sorry, but your Packers don’t stand a chance against my 1985 Chicago Bears. (I’m not so much into a “fantasy life” as I am “living in the past.”)
Of course, it could all just be academic. Newt Gingrich predicted that a victory in South Carolina would result in him winning the Super Bowl, and who am I to disagree?

How does one discover just how much money Beck U has siphoned from the public?

Off topic but something that’s been worrying me — How many middlemen will there be when the companies who outsourced to India and China are faced with workers who demand more money and they return the jobs to the US where, by then, everyone will be willing to work for minimum wage?
DylanThomas3.14159 almost 13 years ago
“… wondering if it might be a bit premature to send a telegram of congratulations to President Obama just yet.” I think the disenfranchisement of Mitt by Newt in SC just may turn out to be the most important happening in the primary election process this year. “Oh, the horror, the horror.”

Wow, all this mixing of sports and politics! I think I finally understand American politics — “my team rules and your team drools!” Doesn’t matter who the players are, we just go out and cheer for our team. “Rah,rah, rah! My team, my team right or wrong!”
Scary!

“…shouldn’t [Zonker] have grey hair & a beer gut by now?” “Not necessary in the comix, the Twilight Zone, the arena of the imagination, of fiction. It would be impossible in any case to get all details right. And even then nobody would care. So why should Trudeau bother? He got rich doing what he’s doing. Says Bugs Bunny, “Unlax, doc.”
