@bluskies: A few days ago, you were asking about Walt Kelly’s Pogo. It’s interesting that Bill Watterson said that Peanuts and Pogo were his two major influences. Here is a quote from Watterson regarding Pogo, in the context of talking about various comic strips:“I think of Pogo, another strip that had tremendous dialogue and fantastic backgrounds…Those strips were just complete worlds that the reader would be sucked into. For a few moments a day we could live in Coconino County; the whole thing was entirely there. The dialogue was part of it, the backgrounds were part of it, the characters were off-beat…”

I crack up when I imagine Calvin tussling over a oiuja board with Hobbes, a stuffed tiger, whose front paws he holds as they (he) tries to guide the magic indicator.

Pogo was wise beyond his years!

Calvin and Hobbes is pretty much the only comic strip worth reading anymore. I like others, but some aren’t even worth going out and buying the books. Today’s humor just seems… too wasted and political… I mean sometimes c and h was but they did it in a more meaningful way.

Am I the only one who “hears” Hobbes voice as Michael Gambon?

My grandmother couldn’t lose a game and always when my grandfather won she took the game and threw it into the stove, now we have a central heating and she would not be lucky in burning games!

The wife had one. The question asked was what was her greatest talent? Great answer – but it turned out to be false!It eventually also went into the burn barrel. After all, the disclaimer on them says – for entertainment purposes only.

You’re right, Hobbes does look something like Tammany Tiger in POGO. I still have the scroll proclaiming me a "Real Live Chairman of the Pogo for President Party at the University of Utah in 1951.

Makes me think of my older brother and I back around Christmas of 195……….. ohh never mind. Mom always wondered how we could “break” an Ouiji Board.
