I don’t know if you’re referring to the entire U.S. or just the southern U.S. If you’re referring to the entire country, in general you are incorrect. Americans are a lot more concerned with their teeth than most other countries in the world. If there are people with bad teeth, they are either in remote areas or already have bad hygiene in other areas and are not concerned with taking care of any part of their body, teeth or otherwise.
Every since I had to have a tooth surgically removed (dentists can’t pull teeth now , a tooth surgeon has to??) and a bridge installed, I have been fanatic about brushing in the morning and now at night before going to bed.
The two men talking reminded me of an Einstein joke:“I need some sodium acetyl silicilate”Druggist: " You mean asprin don’t you Mr. Einstein?"“Oh yes, aspirin – I can never think of that word!”
I floss, use an electric toothbrush and gargle with Tartar-Control Listerine at least twice a day (sometimes more!) and I go to my hygienist every 6 to 9 months for a good cleaning because I want to hold on to my beautiful God-given teeth forever and never have to wear false ones like my parents and a lot of other people I know.

But, if they all start using toothbrushes, you’re not going to have nearly as much business. Don’t forget to pass out the candy.

Remember, this is a Canadian comic strip. Maybe the Canadians have the same attitude about dental hygiene that the Brits do.

Filipinos seem to take very good care of their teeth. They are the only ones I have noticed who brush at work after lunch.
Don’t show children pictures of granny without teeth, show pictures of twenty somethings without teeth.

My old dentist had a needlepointed sign in the rest room that said “You don’t have to brush ALL your teeth; just the ones you want to keep.”
