Elvis on black velvet, poker playing dogs, orphan children with enormous eyes, just about any picture you find on the wall of a motel room, clowns, happy little trees…

I have questioned whether I am just not intelligent enough to see what a lot of the current artists are trying to say, or is there a lot of con job going on. I keep going back to the Emperors new clothes when I look at modern art.

Two weeks ago I was at a modern art gallery and there was a square bowl of water with some ping pong balls floating about. The artist couldn’t have suffered as much as I did watching it.

An artist should be willing to sufffer for his art.

Publicly supported art? You mean he doesn’t have to work for a living?

Ever see an ice sculpture melt? Considering how little snow we’ve gotten, I’ll take it. Here’s my kopec.

I hope this strip is an omen that the yard full of snow goons are soon to appear, plus the one where all the snowmen have suffered many gruesome forms of maiming and death.

People pay sports stars obscene amounts of money to play a game because somebody thinks it’s worth it . . . who cares if someone pays obscene amounts of money for art? If you don’t like it, don’t look at it. It’s also a little ironic considering that Watterson left this comic strip to pursue his art. shrugs

It looks like a mild version of those creepy illustrations from “Scary Stories to tell in the dark”

…actually, in the final panel, Calvin and the snowman look surprisingly similar – a self portrait, perhaps?

Scoff if you must, but that snow-sculpted tongue proves Calvin’s artistic genius.

Didn’t someone say that 90% of all art is crap?

Calvin may have mastered the art of snow sculpture, but does it really deserve public, or even family support?

Of course artists take the money if it is offered. The question at the moment is: can we afford to offer?

funny the worst snowman he ever built is the avant-garde design.

And Calvin grew up and went to work in the Obama administration.

Either that or: Give a man a fish, and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he’ll spend the rest of his afternoons on the lake. . . .

I never talked like this when I was 6 years old.

I don’t buy ridiculously over-priced crap people call “art”. I’ve been making my own beautiful pictures through cross stitch for the past 24 years. It may take me several months to produce a finished product but I take great pride in having something hanging on my walls that I stitched myself and no one else has simply because it’s the latest “fad” and everyone has to have it.

For a young little guy Calvin speaks like an educated adult.

Calvin needs a big lump of clay to sculptor into something priceless.

It’s funny how certain artists are so fussy about capitalism and enterprise when they are (rightfully and normally) seeking to market themselves the whole time.

If I were his mom I’d be pretty impressed with his vocabulary.
