How true…when I first moved into an apartment, all the noise kept me awake for a few nights….when I moved into my house, the quiet kept me awake….

And copier/printers that periodically reset themselves and make sounds like they are printing! In the middle of the night.

An old farmer lived by the train tracks, and every morning at 1:37, the train would roll by, making an awful racket. But, after 50 years, he’d grown accustomed to the noise and had slept through it for almost half a century. However, the line went bankrupt and that night at 1:37 there was no train. The farmer jolted out of bed shouting, “What the &^*( was that!?”

Reminds me of when I was living in Hong Kong. I was very used to traffic noises, but the first time I slept out in a village in a friend’s house, the dogs and roosters woke me up early.
