There’s nothing like loving sisters, especially if one got some loving at the prom and the other didn’t go to the prom at all! They both know it wasn’t pickle stains—unless it was a really big “dill” pickle!Speaking of “Wide World of Pants,” Joy looks like she has the beam of the battleship West Virginia. I wonder if that had something to do with Verl racking up some battle stripes first.Different subject: Marg and Leaky, pay attention. Yesterday I saw two new billboards that tickled me. They were both for Zatarain’s creole seasoning. The first was for their Shrimp and Crab Boil and showed a jazz musician with a saxophone. The caption was, “Let the Good Times Boil.” The second was for their Fish Fri and showed a bowl of fried okra. The caption was, “As Seen on Okra.” I thought it was very clever.Good morning!

Good Morning Crustwood Denizens….. and Aloha GymShoe…

Yes, nothing like a sister to remember all your foibles….. even 40 years later. I know. I have one.

I think Joy’s a couple of years older than Verla.

Burl was her high school boyfriend — we’ve seen their prom picture, and also one of Burl in a football uniform next to Joy in a pony tail.

So I’d bet Joy only let Verl borrow her precious dress cos she was out of school by then.

And sorry, but I seriously doubt Verl got any prom action, cos I believe she was a virgin till well into her 40’s.

That’s when that smooth-talkin’ devil, Jerry, told her she wasn’t getting any younger and if she didn’t want to “treat him right” he could have any “girl” he wanted.

She thought it would put her on the fast track to becoming Mrs. Zwank….but there will only ever be one Mrs. Zwank for Jer…. his mom.

    But I digress……

Meanwhile, Mikie that reminds me of a sign I used to love…..

Along a country road not far from here, nailed to a tall post, was a weathered, rather amateur-looking plywood cut-out of a footprint, about 8 feet tall.

Hand painted lettering read ‘Give Us All Your “Tows” —We Don’t Charge an Arm and a Leg.’

and the name and phone number of a local auto repair shop.

As warped as Ms. Larson’s presentation usually is, I find myself envying the relationship Joy and Verla have.

If it would have been most girls, I would not have believed the not a grass stain story. However, because it was Verl, I kinda believe her!

    Morning Crustwoodians!

Re: Sisters. My wife and I went to Victoria (TX) last Friday to visit her 1st cousin there. We had a nice visit then drove up to Cuero (20 mi) to visit with the rest of ‘em. I know that no one will believe this but there are five sisters from 71 to less than 50, widowed, retired and working, and they all live within that 20 miles of each other, the love each other and they have a standing date for kaffe klatch and lunch every Monday. I don’t believe it and I was there!

Good morning, I guess! I’ve just spent a couple of hours shopping for a cheap white dress. My daughter plans a “White party” for her 3rd wedding. I had planned to wear the dress in this picture but she is pressuring me. My BF has the matching tie he wore here in 1990 to a wedding in his family and could with his white tux. I look pretty good in this iridescent burgundy taffeta (only wore to that wedding and once a year of so ago to the opera). I normally make a dress for special occasion, but I don’t even WANT a white dress. Only wore one to my wedding back in 1959 (I’d wear that, but I cut it up to save the appliqués).

Good idea, but it will be cheap fabric – not worth the effort. I have many cuts of fine silk and linen (no white). I’d love a photo of him in the white tux and red BT and me standing in this dress (has flat front and large ruffles in the back).

@Simsonfan, I know you’re kidding about alterations as neither of them has any shape whatsoever.@Susan, you really have them pegged. Today was my first indication that Joy is the elder.

Can someone help me out with the label on the box under the one marked “OLD BRAS”? I can’t make it out. I am assuming the box on the floor is “STRETCHED OUT SHOES.” Any Crustwoodian out there familiar enough with Joy’s closet to enlighten us on what’s in the other boxes?

@Guapo, second line looks like “eyes” which would refer to the find it which Julie sometimes does. My closet used to have hat trims (so I could trim 4-6 basic hats with various things to coordinate with outfits)

    Thanks Marg and Dazz…. lol

To me, as I think I said yesterday, Verl has always acted like the younger one.

She seems to have a grudging admiration for Joy’s superior experience with cooking, shopping and men.

They both think Burl is a prize … but I’d hate to see the consolation prizes in that contest! Oh….wait…. Verl got one.

Being a two-years-older sister, myself, I can easily read the subtext of Joy’s dig at Verl.

“I know you’ve always said it was relish, but I know what you were really doing…”

To which Verl makes the same tight-lipped response she’s been making for 40 years.

My sister and I are not quite as close, and way more polite….but there are certain little buttons we can always push, especially for a tease.

El Guapo, it says “Coordinates” …..It wouldn’t fit on on one line…..but Julie takes a somewhat…. um…. let’s just say “less than anal”….approach to lettering.

Oh — and I agree with Dazz – Verl’s prom date took her to a hot dog stand.

C’mon, we know it wasn’t the football captain…

It was either that weird kid who could hardly tie his shoelaces….

or a wise-ass sophomore who asked her cos he couldn’t go on his own, and thought a fat, lonely senior might just be very very grateful (wink wink….)

But when he figured out he wasn’t even gettin’ any….

    Leaky — LOL…. me too…

But I’m somewhat comforted by the idea that having it with each other keeps them from hitting on the rest of us!

I know that’s not foolproof, and may not stop Jerry from his feeble attempts….

but I think they’re all pretty much too lazy to bother actually straying.
