From the positioning of Matthew’s hands and the look on his face, I’d say l’d say his “career” is stretched to its limits. And if he doesn’t quit dreaming about skinny dipping in the secretarial pool he could be at the climax of his career.

As Matthew ponders the week end work shop, sponsored by the “Brothers of Right Thinking”, entitled, “How to Avoid the Monday Morning Blues” he realizes it was not very effective.

In answer to the caption: Yes, there might.“The good is the enemy of the best” only if you have a particular craving for perpetual frustration and stress, because no matter how high you attain, you’re never there. It makes at least as much sense to conclude that the best is the enemy of the pretty darn good.

This revelation, not-so timely but justly in realization, slowly formed and matured… not unlike a small pustule of fungi in a smelly gym sock discarded behind the cushion of his Barca-lounger brain… eventually emerging and assaulting his long lost will to succeed beyond a Sr. Prohylactic Inspector, reminded him of his book report required as a part of his online curriculum…. yes, that was it… a book by a Lawrence J Peter widely famous in 1968, on the publication of The Peter Principle, in which he states: “In a hierarchy every employee tends to rise to his level of incompetence … in time every post tends to be occupied by an employee who is incompetent to carry out its duties … Work is accomplished by those employees who have not yet reached their level of incompetence.”“Naaaahhhh…..” he reassured himself….“I’m versatile and resourceful, it opened doors into my moonlighting as a balloon sculpting clown on weekends..”

Matthew, my friend, there’s virtue in any career. As long as you’re gainfully employed and have a roof over your head, you’re doing okay.
