    Regarding Godzilla under an umbrella…

    http://obituarytypo.blogspot.com/2012/01/umbrella.html

I’m 90% sure that’s the Gyakushu Goji suit, so named because it appeared in the 1955 film, “Gojira no Gyakushū.”

Literally translated, the title is “Godzilla’s Counterattack,” but the film’s English language title was “Godzilla Raids Again,” or, in the US, “Gigantis the Fire Monster.”

According to some theologians, concupiscience of one’s own wife is considered sinful. It is to be noted that said theologians are not now, nor ever shall be married. Sour grapes, thinks I.

Regarding that Godzilla-with-umbrella pic, I was quite mistaken! Japanese sci-fi historian August Ragone tells me the Godzilla suit in the photograph is from the original 1954 movie. August writes, “This was actually from a gag PR photo op for magazines heralding the forthcoming release of the original GODZILLA in 1954. This is the very same suit used in the film. The girl is Momoko Kochi, who starred as Emiko Yamane.”

Concupiscent isn’t really bad unless it’s abbreviated.

I believe I recognize Chumley, the walrus friend of Tennessee Tuxedo, on the Frosty-O’s box. Tennessee was, of course, voiced by the distinctive Don Adams of “Get Smart” fame. Who voiced Chumley? I’ll leave that to others.

The ‘o’ spelling has a tad too much vowel shift, I think – a sudden acceleration, maybe? A bit liberal on the translation too, perhaps.
