Absolutely stunning work! I look forward to this strip every day with the anticipation readers must have felt in the Chester Gould era, and installments like this actually exceed my expectations.
Yikes! So who’s dead? Who’s wounded? That last panel is a little confusing – a LEFT hand with a gun nearby – but Putty P— I mean Harley — and Blinkin are RIGHT handed. Since the body is wearing a jacket, we can rule out Cueball. So did Tracy get Winkin, too?And oh yeah – great action and art! I really like the shadow of Tracy’s hat and the flash illuminating the end & finger guard of Harley’s gun! Wowzers!
Holy brass-fest, Tracyrinos! Horns blaring, bullets flying, I tell you it’s a musical war zone out there, friends! Looks like Winkin (next-to-last panel) was the lefty, so I think he’s down in the last panel, but it also looks like Blinkin was hit. And either Putty Puss or Cueball, or both, must have been shot as as well. All that remains is for the MCS to mop up, and for Tracy to get a new fedora!
Wasn’t there a strip once with Tracy adding his latest “murdered” hat to his collection? There’s been a few comments here about Fearless Fosdick but Tracy has often been shot in the fedora. And with a gun battle going on it’s good to see Son of Spike using Pop’s favorite percussion instrument.
Awesome art. It’s hard to imagine that Cueball or Harley would miss at such short range. I too wonder who’s left hand is in the last panel. It looks like Winkin is left handed and he is wearing long sleeves and a jacket. Cool that there’s another hat to be added to Tracy’s gallery. Lol
At long last, the iconic “shot through the hat” scene returns. Excellent! Again, hoping we get to see the wall of shot-up yellow hats and perhaps a close up of the tags? The last one I remember added was from either Pike in 73 or referenced in the Gallstones episode in 76?
And the band played on … played on until the end.I also really like the Hall of Fame today. People often stereotypically associate cats with the wrong side of the law (“cat burglar,” James Bond villains shown stroking cats, etc.), but here we learn about a real-life upholder of law and justice who was known as “The Cat Who Never Sleeps.” Yes!

More excitement at Cueball’s than there was at the Science Museum! And Tracy’s not running away and hiding!

Just noticed that even Spike Jr has a gun. Everybody came armed tonight. This club needs a metal detector!

As Captain Kiddeo alludes, Spike Jones famously used pistol shots in his song parodies, so it should not be a surprise if Spike Jr. has a gun.
The bullet thru Tracy’s hat reminds me of the pre-PC days when Chester Gould would show bullets exiting from people’s skulls. Ah, the good old days.

I see Liz in the doorway of the panel where Putty Puss and Cueball are confronting each other. Do you suppose she got whichever one was left standing?

Have we seen Dick’s trophy case lately? The one containing all his bullet-torn hats, mustaches, body parts, etc.?

Winkin looks like a southpaw today, but he was definitely holding a gun in his right hand on Thursday!

Been following this Tracy incarnation for about a year now. It feels like the strip did when I was a kid, 50’s and 60’s. Please, leave the moon alone!

Interesting that everyone except SOS has the same model of pistol.

Not at all surprising if an episode of Dick Tracy reminds anyone of Fearless Fosdick, who was conceived as a spoof of you-know-who.
