Everyone says that, but the comments could not exist without the strip.
Either element is meaningless without the other.
They are yin and yang, Sith and Jedi, Smokey and Bandit, tea-bagger and tree-hugger; it is in the dynamic interplay between DT and its comments that shibumi is achieved.
He’d do better playing air violin! (I guess that’s what Morrow is alluding to.)
Regarding motive for reading the strip: The worse the strip is, the better the comments. I think we’re just watching to see how bad it can get.
But, if I may, commenting on size of hands, repeating panels, other details like that gets old quick. We all know about the artistic problems and they will always be here. It’s the plots that really stink. Implausibility, padding for phony suspense, and inconsistency are really inexcusable.

Something like the maestro’s kid. Notice how much he has aged in the past couple days. From what I see in panel two, his body appears to be shrinking. His hair still has a lot of “life”, though. I must say, dad and son are one ugly pair.
It comes from hanging around with gangstas. The gangstas on the teevee hold their guns sideways – so the son (who suddenly looks older than his father) thinks he should hold the violin sideways to show what a hard-core gangsta thief he is.
Locher is doing the out-of-panel voices again. This time we can guess who’s talking. Will we be able to next time?

I continue to wonder why the kid didn’t take the money and run.

Whose is it?

Because this is the ‘modern’ version of D. Tracy, this story will continue to make no sense up until it’s unsatisfying conclusion…

Maybe the kid has to pay 2 mil in parking tickets or alimony or something.

Gweedo, the comments are reason enough for me to keep coming here. The comic itself is not a draw.

Well said, merrymarg and Flight Suit!
All I want to know is what happened to the kids face? Did the stress of stealing his fathers strad make him age +/- 20 years in a few minutes?
LudwigVonDrake almost 15 years ago
I agree with VistaBill. The kid should have run off to South America with the cash.

Rare compliment to the strip here:
For the past week or so, the strip has finally been moving at a decent pace.

The Orange Blossom Special just don’t sound as good on a fake Strad. Maybe the kid could lip-sync the music.

My wife is a violinist. NO violinist holds the violin that way! I guess I keep coming back just to see how much more lame this comic strip can get …

No conductor holds the baton the way “Maestro Dad” did the other day either. Did we really expect accuracy from DL?

When Sparkle Plenty was 12 years old she was in a good comic strip. If she played one now it would probably look like a tuba.

I shudder to think what Sparkle Plenty would look like now. Possibly like Della Contessa one day and Barb Els the next!
