Leaving your car running and unattended to warm up is illegal here in Germany. Though that’s to protect the environment more than to protect stupid people from crooks.

Ha, every remote starter I’ve worked with or have seen requires that the driver/owner place the key in the ignition of the car before anything else in the car will work. Otherwise the car automatically quits. Unless Gary and Lance are implying that the thief hotwired the car. Then it doesn’t matter if they remote-started it or not. Hmmm.

Is that a GARAGE at the top of the driveway, where the car could be INSIDE, where it wouldn’t have to warm up, where it should be safe from thieves?!?

My remote starter requires that the door be locked before it will work. Then I have to put the key in the ignition and turn it to the first position before I can put the car in gear.

Yes, you can remote-start the car without unlocking the DOORS!

Whatever happened to just getting into the car, starting it up, giving it 30 seconds for all the fluids to start moving and go? It warms up a lot faster and you’re not wasting your $3.50 a gallon gas.

I’ve had a couple of remote starts and no, the cars could not be “stolen” unless hot-wired. And sad to say, yes, my 3 person family is a victim of two much “junk” in the garage. Only one van can fit in a 4 car garage.

To anyone that leaves their car run:

Fuel efficiency = miles traveled / gallon used

let your car run for 15 minutes fuel efficiency = Zero mpg!

In the winter the longest you need to let your car run is to make sure the windows are clear to see.

My wife’s car has a remote starter built into the alarm system. If someone touches either the brake or gas pedal, the engine immediately dies. She also has to select to unlock the doors to shut off the entry alarm. And no, she doesn’t leave the engine running for extended periods.
