no. the flip flop of the continent would still result in the larger population (and therefore the larger amount of manufacturing plants) settling in the north and the south would still be more rural than the north. It was the north’s ability to overwhelm the south in the sheer number of weapons and weapons of war and number of available soldiers that enabled them to win the war, similar to the onslaught of the allies against their axis opponents in WW2.
I saw something online today saying that all the continents are expected to move into a giant single landmass resembling the old mega-continent Pangaea (sp.?).
… in a hundred million years or so. Better start getting ready.
Well, settlement would still have happened in the eastern seaboard, and the South would have the North’s weather and such, and the New South would still have the same economic pressures as the old… a lot of the history might have been much the same, except perhaps the British might not have made it to Richmond to burn the White House… Laura Secord, the Canadian archvillainess, might not have been successful in warning the bad guys that the good guys were coming, thus really getting them ticked off… Canada might well be better off.

This was sort of covered in C.S.A.: The Confederate States of America (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0389828/)
