Frazz by Jef Mallett for March 18, 2012
Transcript:
Caulfield: What's that? Frazz: My Boston Marathon cowbell. A friend sent it to me when i qualified. I was a great motivator. Caulfield: But didn't you get hurt? Frazz: Yup. Then it became my motivation to get back there. Caulfield: So why are you getting rid of it? Frazz: Another friend just pulled out of the olympic trials with a stress fracture, so i'm sending it to him to say well, i'm still not completely sure what it says. Caulfield: What it says to me is your sister is coming to visit and bringing the twins. Frazz: Last time, it took them less than a minute to find the stupid thing.

Just a bell. Indeed with many types of motivation.

Its amazing what little kids can get into. One of my baby cousins has been able to use a wrench since he was one and a half years old. It’s adorable until you have to figure out where the bolts came from.

Love Frazz’s expression in the last panel! ⍢ True story: Several years ago, my father mentioned he was going to visit my grandmother that afternoon, and I asked if I could bring my two young sons and ride along, since we hadn’t seen her in a while. When we got there, the boys went out to play in the back, and we sat and visited in the living room. After about the third time I said something like, “That’s really pretty, is it new?” my Gramma gave a little sigh and chuckled, and said, “No, I’ve had it for years. I just didn’t know you and the boys were coming today.”

Better hide the little electric keyboards, too. Or at least take the batteries out of them…

During the silence of a test, invariably a kid will start tapping his pencil on the desk, oblivious to the fact it’s driving the other students crazy…

I’m a little confused with this one. What’s the significance of the cow-bell? And the last two panels, huh?

He could’ve sent it to my wife. She’s in a master’s degree program at Mississippi State.

@ProudArianne: “No, I’ve had it for years. I just didn’t know you and the boys were coming today.”
That’s the funniest thing I’ve read all week.

Moo! Marathons are known for having too many people who shouldn’t run in them, so maybe a cowbell is a great idea. You need to use it as sort of a cattle prod. You don’t ring them, you hit them with a stick; most cowbells I’ve seen and heard don’t have clappers in them.

The local classic rock station periodically has a “cow bell weekend”, where they feature songs with cowbells.

Would you rather have vuvuzuelas?
