As a Jew, Joseph would have a better beard. I suppose they are building a door to keep out the sheep. Also, why is everyone barefoot in a carpenters shop?
Thanks for the enlargement (Mabrndt has been missing too long). I love to see the dove resting on the ladder (though it may represent the Holy Spirit, since the stigmatata indicate allegory). There appear to be many shavings around the floor, but I see nothing resembling a lathe, and the first few rows of sheep outside seem out of scale (and very numerous for a family who can’t afford sandals).
I’ve always thought it odd that the writers chose carpenter as Jesus’ advocation … in the area where he is supposed to have grown up, wood was in short supply long before Rome came to power. The only reason I can think of is that they wanted Jesus to have a very humble background. I reckon carpenters from that area were very poor.
Who do you propose the other people are? He had no older siblings, right? Unless there were other unwritten about immaculate conceptions. His mom and dad were probably less than 20 years older than him.
You are right, that is a nice work bench. Bet it cost him many drachma at the local Woodcraft store. According to Chireef, they were working on a large table top to be used in the Upper Room for a banquet of about 13. The table top being larger than the workbench it covers the bench dog holes and the bench dogs are stored away. Only thing needed is a Black-and-Decker shop broom to clean up the shavings.

They’re all ‘lovey-dovey’ now, but they turn on him in later episodes. (Mark 6:1-6, Matthew 13:53-58)

The shavings are from a plane. I have one from 1965 that has $7.95 written in magic marker on the side.
