You need a side or back entrance for dogs and kids – a mud room, laundry room, bathroom, whatever where you can strip them, towel them down and throw them into the tub. A good share of the fun of childhood is doing things that get you dirty.
@georgiiiiMy grandparents had a small “house” in their backyard in Oceanside, CA. It was a combination mud room (well, sand anyway), bathroom, laundry room and store room. When we got back from the beach we would go in there to get cleaned up before we were allowed back in the house. In those days, there would be little tar balls all over the beach and of course as kids we would come home with the stuff on the bottoms of our feet. My grandfather would take his pocket knife and gently scrape our feet to remove the worst of it before we hit the shower.
dogs live outdoors. no dog allowed in the house, ever. kids, only if they’re already clean. if they get dirty or noisy, back to the parents immediately. no problem.

Will Elly pamper and clean up the kids like she did Farley?

The bigger question is, since when do children have to knock on the door to get in the house?
